Ok, I am pertty new to MediaPortal, I have been using it for about 2 months Now. For my EPG guide I have been using zap2it plugin, as it was the easiest for me to get setup. But with zap2it not offering free service anymore, I need to find an alternative.

I am confused when it comes down to these EPG programs. Let me see if I have this correct...

XmlTV pulls from a source, like zap2it?

I was thinking about trying the WebEPG, its a program that creates xml's with the tv listings? Where does it pull its data from?

Sorry for the newbieness But I am confused maybe someone can straighten me out.

:D

edit: the other problem I am running into, is My cable is provided by our apartments, I believe they get Direct TV, then rebroadcast the channels. So zap2it had a list of channels for our apartment, but several months ago, they added a few channels, and I dont have any listings for those. I am guess I will have to make a custom channel listing?

Thanks again

    Hi Tonyscha,

I am not familiar with zap2it but I've been using webepg successfully for some time. Basically you decided where to pull the data for it. There are a number of predefined templates for various sites that can be used. In essence it goes to a webpage (containing the TV guide you want to download), parse the HTML through a tempate that extracts the start/end/title/etc parameters. Then it makes this into the tvguide.xml file that is consequently read into MP for display.
