As soon as I have time I will look into XMLTV, Zap2xml, SchedulesDirect, Mc2xml etc to compare.
Except for the OTA channels I populate all my EPG of 110/119W capturing the data of the satellite channel 303.
Yes.... It wont work until you make some modifications to the tuningdetail database inside MP to correct TID (trasponder ID) and NID (Network ID). From what I understood, It seems that at scanning time some of the transponders reports some wrong information and we are required to correct this IDs in order to be able to capture and assign the data to each channels correctly. Please note that this is not an error of MP but an isue of the provider.
I am newbie in here and starting to learn MP. I found some information on the web. Here in this forum there is a user call wderbi that seems to have the answer. Sadly he did not post his findings back to this forum. But he did in an external forum. I do not know the policy in this forum to external forums so I will not post the link to prevent breaking a rule.
But, do a search in google=>"How to convert CW4K.zip". In this tutorial you will find the autor wderbi explaining how to correct this TID/NID's on "Getting EPG from North American Provider" Section. It seems that depending on your location you Satellite LOCAL SPOT Channels are going to change. So it may require you to correct some IDs to the file he provide: "SQL query for TID.txt" . In fact I found a couple of lines making changes to the same transponders (Clearly the last one to run will be the one finally to be applied). In any case I am providing this query modified to my zone ( Caribe ) see attachment below.
This are the changes made to the original file:
1) ALL Frequencies over 12700000( Used on DDP) were return to its original value by ( new frequency = 25600000 - DDP frequency) since I have a regular Switch and not DDP.
2) Line 9, I changed transportid = 49 to 9 and frequency = 12340000 to 12341000
3) Deleted line 22 since it is wrong and is duplicated by line 33.
4) Deleted line 23 since it is wrong and is duplicated by line 35.
5) Deleted line 24 since it is wrong and is duplicated by line 47.
I can not test some of the transponders because either are HD or are not on my area. For example I will expect that TID 41,43,45 & 47 should be 1,3,5,7 respectively. In the same way 2464 may be 204 and so on. Just follow the table and the order. Or you can go to h__p://www.sathint.com/119W?list=transponders&sort=frequency and h__p://www.sathint.com/110W?list=transponders&sort=frequency for reported TID and NID.
Finally as he described this query assume Diseqc
Level1AA = Port 1 / Port A => 119W
Level1AB = Port 2 / Port B => 110W
Level1BA = Port 3 / Port C =>129W
Level1BB = Port 4 / Port D
If you what to use the Query I suggest you use this order if not you may have to changed diseqc = 3,4&5 to the proper value in each line of the query!

To clarify, my experience with MP is in days or maybe weeks. I am really new. I am starting to dig in this forum.
Today I found an area in this forum were in August of 2008 were talking about the solution I mention previously. For those of you that may want to have a look the tread is=>
90% of my DISH Channels have NO EPG >> EpgGrabber: no channel found for networkid
There is a lot of information there explaining the channel mismatch problem. But what I found interesting is a comment from ASiDiE that said:"To complete you listing. Download the 2 day guide and search for your SID number for the channel. Write down the networkID and Transponder ID. Convert these from bin to Hex (I use this web site: Hex-Dec Converter) And edit your SQL database. This is the only way I know of... of getting ALL of your channels to have EPG guide."
So, even when right now my EPG seems to be working with the query attached previously. I may try to dig a little using ASiDiE proposed solution to find our self the right TID and NID by looking in the downloaded data. My problem here is to find out were is this downloaded epg data located since my SQL knowledge is almost 0. Will see.

Unfortunately, there are items in that tutorial that may fall outside of the realm of can be legally done with provider services which is why I did not provide that tutorial on many of the sites that I am a member of. Although I clearly state that "you should check with your local provider" in the tutorial, I didn't feel comfortable posting most of that info here because I didn't want to bring unnecessary scrutiny to this site or the ire of the developers of mediaportal.
However, what you say is indeed acurate regarding MPs handling of PID/NIT info in the DN EPG stream: This convoluted method of streaming that information is only so that it can be correctly parsed by their equipment only. It is their way of trying to make it as unique as possible---as a probable deterent to piracy. Fortunately, there are some DVB applications such as DVBdream and VDR that has the proper code that can be added to mediaportal that can fix this issue. Perhaps the developers of MP can look into it?

I think you mentioned in your tutorial that we as developers don't seem to be interested in supporting things that some of the other software offerings (DVBDream et. al.) do. I'd like to correct that if I could. It is not that we don't want to at all - it is just that those of us from "over the pond" or "down under...ish" don't know a whole lot about the broadcasting scene in "the land of the free". We struggle to even provide good support for ATSC and QAM because we simply haven't got the team members to test or develop for those features. We *do* want more people from the US using MP!
My view up until now has been that most folks who want to view "non-free" channels with HTPCs use devices like the Hauppauge Colossus and HDPVR or analog tuners to exploit the analog hole. That is part of the reason why I've been working so hard with WileECoyote to get support for that (Colossus, HDPVR, analog support - especially software encoded cards, which can be tricky...) up to scratch in 1.2.0b and going forward. As far as actual CableCard devices go: I've been working with DiskHead to try and get at least minimal support for the Ceton InfiniTV, but that is going to be tough. Ultimately I don't think it will be the best solution since PBDA is so hard-locked down. When it comes to satellite I really have just had no idea that there were issues until I read your tutorial - I just assumed that all that was required was to use different polarisations (circular) and you were fine...
So are you interested in bringing me up to speed and making some improvements? Here are some tidbits of information that you might be interested in...
Regarding the next release ("1.3.0"): I have proposed some significant changes to LNB/satellite handling to improve that side of compatibility (in accordance with the work in this thread, which I think you know about). Part of that will hopefully include proper support for bandstacked LNBs - I'm hoping that you or someone else from the US could offer your advice and help with testing. I await the rest of the teams' approval to get started with that...
In terms of the NIT vs. PAT + PMT + SDT approach: that has been discussed at great length on our internal forums in the last few months. The discussions have mostly focussed on improving the tracking of channel movements (changes between transponders etc.) and scanning speed. I think the general consensus is that we could do that better if we were primarily scanning NIT. In my opinion, knowing that compatibility with US broadcasts would also be improved would be a big drawcard for changing our approach. I'm not entirely sure what will happen there, but if you want compatibility with certain providers who shall remain nameless then *now* is the time to tell me.

No...Thank YOU mm1352000 for all you have done so far with Mediaportal to make it is great an HTPC application that is out there! No disrespect to any of the other developers who contribute, but I have always wanted to give you some props for your "responsivity"...if that is a real word!... to the minor issues that I have had so far with MP. I do appreciate the accolades that you have given me for my small contribution, but I am only doing my small share in spreading the good word about this awsome software that you guys have worked very hard to provide the community.
That being said, better compatibility with dishpro and other North American satellite-specific technology would really be a huge draw for Mediaportal on this side of the hemisphere. My knowledge is limited, but I am willing to do all that I can to help test---although I have no concept of coding or programming. As far as a more in depth understanding of the NA satellite stream, there are some really knowledgable folk over at dvbn (happysat) forum (which I am sure you are aware of), but there is also a North American Dreambox site (www.db4na.n-e-t) who have some more knowledgable people regarding NA satellite stream. Just let me know if there is anything that I could do if you would like to see how the equipment reacts to code changes...If you provide me with the info on how to test stuff, I will do what I can!

wderbi this is the first time I write to you. Please be sure that I really appreciate your explanation on the EPG solution. I hope you did not mind that I suggested others to search for your solution. It was very helpful to me. It is my custom to always name the original author. I see you thanked me, but be sure I am the one that give the thanks. I apologize for not realizing that you were discussing other issues. I did not used that information, but I found you explanation and solution for the EPG problem a MUST HAVE information and fail to see the other info. My apologies to you and to the moderators if I have violated any rules.

Hi, I am curious what server you are using with mc2xml... Is it:
1.) microsoft(legacy)
2.) TitanTV
3.) Schedules Direct
I only ask because I downloaded mc2xml last night and TitanTV did not work. It generated an error message and I will have to post it when I try it again. Microsoft legacy did work, but it the EPG listings seem to be a bit vague. For example, I don't see any programs marked as "New". That is important for me because I want to set up my PVR recordings based on whether the program is new.
I believe that TitanTV would be more thorough but can't test this with the version of mc2xml that I am using. Is it possible that there is already a bugfix for this?
