I think that Eventghost has a built in MCE plug-in, I know that previously I was using it with my Harmony 525.

That said, I have since switched to using IR server Suite, as my new HTPC client had an in-built IR receiver. IRSS works really well except for a few resume from standby issues. These I fixed by creating a little batch file to reset IRSS when coming out of standby.

What receiver were you using though? Was it an MCE receiver or Streamzap receiver or other?

Also, what are the benefits of using IRSS over EventGhost in this situation?

Hmmm. Seems some Linux / MythTV users have had success using other remote with the streamzap receiver and they claim it's "just an IR receiver" and should allow use of other remotes > Nabble - mythtv-users - StreamZap receiver

However other are saying certain remotes won't work. I will have to try again but I am pretty sure when I was emulating the MCE remote with my Harmony nothing showed up in EventGhost. Will have to try again and try other remotes.

    It was the Streamzap receiver/

The advantage of irss for me now is that it works with my new HTPC clients inbuilt receiver, so no need to have the Streamzap receiver plugged in

I assume then that you had the MCE remote drivers installed on the system which probably also means you had the MCE receiver connected at some point? I do not own an MCE receiver or remote and thus am not sure how to get the drivers installed. Any suggestions?

Thought this might explain - from the IRSS documentation

"With IR Server Suite there is no reason to use the MCE Replacement Driver.

By default Windows will handle most of the MCE Remote buttons, the arrow buttons, number buttons, etc ...
But I've now figured out a way to stop this behaviour ...

To handle the MCE device Windows loads a series of device drivers onto the system.
The main driver is the USB device driver, it provides access to the MCE device. Without it you can't use the device at all.

There are also a series of Human Interface Device (HID) drivers that are there to translate raw information from the USB device into remote button presses, keyboard and mouse inputs.

You can't disable the HID drivers but you can alter their settings to prevent them from acting on the button presses coming from the remote.

This process should work on all version of Windows that support the Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver. I've tested on Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista Home Premium and it worked on both.

However, please note that HIP, Girder and EventGhost can't use the default Windows eHome driver in Vista. On Windows XP these programs are fine, but these programs need the Replacement driver for Vista and I haven't been able to get the Replacement driver to work on 64-bit Vista yet, only 32-bit Vista."

Thanks for the info. I will have to give that a try this weekend if I can find the time. I had read a little in that thread about the IRSS but it seemed to be mostly a list of updates / fixes and I wasn't really sure what it's purpose was or how it worked. That clears things up a little.

Will try and keep you posted.

For those of you who have done this successfully, what does this part of the instructions refer to:

    Import MessagePlugin.hip into HIP.

(it works without that step, but I'm curious what it is)

Hi there, i was trying for a few days to make eventghost to call TV Series and Moving Pictures but i've used all ideas.
I use Logitech UltraX Media Remote and it works for basic functions within MP.
Is there any way to send these commands for TVSeries and MovPics from Eventghost? Something like Add Action->TV Series etc.?
