Ok, I've come to the conclusion I need some help trying to figure out whats causing some Divx/Xvids not to play on my new HTPC machine. To put you in the picture i've been using Windows XP Media Center without issues for 5 years with manual installs of Xvid/Divx codecs etc rather than codec packs. In Dec 2008 I built the above system using Vista Ultimae x86, started off using Vista Media Center but was disappointed with the overall package. I'm am a converted MediaPortal user now ;) The issue: There seem to be issues playing specific files, through MediaPortal and Vista Media Center for that matter. These files play fine through WMP 11 on the same machine, render without problems through GSpot, and playback in GraphStudio. I'm no expert in any of these tools though. Things i've tried: Vista Ultimate x64 with Sharkies Codec Pack x86 + x64 addon / Vista Media Center / MediaPortal 1.0 Vista Ultimate x64 with K Lite Pack Basic / MediaPortal 1.0 Vista Ultimate x86 with MediaPortal 1.0 (Current Setup) - K Lite Pack Basic (Current Install) - ffshow and codecs only - Sharkies Vista Codec Pack x86 - Updated ASUS Intel G45 GFX drivers to latest Intel G45 GFX drivers (non ASUS drivers) - Fiddled with Videoplayer configurations in MediaPortal, EVR to VMR9 etc. - Not touched the default codec pack configs, although tried limited codec installs for Divx/Xvid which i mainly use. EVR Mode in MediaPortal double click the AVI file after 1 sec just refreshes the directory. (Exception in log) VMR9 Mode in MediaPortal appears with a black screen and sound. (No exception in log) WMP11 no issues with any files. Vista Media Center same issues as MediaPortal black screen and sound. My real question is why does it run in WMP11 and not anything else? And is there a solution? Its a shame to have gone from Windows XP Media Center without any problems what so ever.
