I mapped my remote's power button to "action: exit". When I use the button anytime in Media Portal, it freezes in the middle of the exit. Sound continue to work, nothing else does. If any keyboard or mouse movement is registered, Media Portal will unfreeze and exit properly. I would like to use only a remote.

Things that don't work:
-Using the exit button right after starting Media Portal instead of during media play.
-Mapping "action:exit" instead of "shutdown:exit Media Portal" causes the same effect.
-Mapping exit through a different plugin offered through IRSS instead
-Using an "exit" module on HomeBasic. It works if clicked with keyboard or mouse, but not with remote.
-Changing skins. I've tried three different skins. No change.
-Disabling plugins. I disabled my Moving Pictures and MP-TVSeries. No change.

Things that work:
-Mapping the remote's button to a taskkill.exe aimed at MediaPortal.
-Mapping the remote's button to "Alt-F4".
-Leaving an active program like taskmgr.exe open in the background, then exiting normally. Not sure why, but perhaps any graphical change at all helps unfreeze MediaPortal.

I'm not exactly comfortable with using any of these permanently. Has anyone encountered this before?

I am interested in your subject. I use the shortcut Alt+F4 but sometimes it hangs, i guess no properly exit through this way.

So I collected some logs earlier and found where it freezes:

2011-03-24 01:59:15.415016 [Debug][GenericPCQueue(19)]: MPControlPlugin: Received Message "RemoteEvent"
2011-03-24 01:59:15.424016 [Debug][GenericPCQueue(19)]: * / -1 / POWER / EXIT
2011-03-24 01:59:15.434017 [Debug][GenericPCQueue(19)]: MPControlPlugin: Command "Power2" mapped to remote
2011-03-24 01:59:15.439017 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: Main: Exit requested
!!!FREEZE!!!
2011-03-24 02:00:06.694949 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: Main: Stopping FrameMove
2011-03-24 02:00:06.707949 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: GUIFont:texture disposing:0 debug
2011-03-24 02:00:06.709950 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: GUIFont:texture disposing:1 font12
2011-03-24 02:00:06.710950 [Debug][MPMain(1)]: GUIFont:texture disposing:2 font14

So MediaPortal is unable to stop unless the frame is released. Keyboard movement, a mouse click, or even just a blinking cursor is enough to unfreeze it. Since this looks like a bug, there's nothing we can do. For me, I'll just keep a clock application open in a second monitor.
