It would be nice to have a plugin inside mediaportal to configure your tv tuners and scan for channels. This would made it a complete Set Top Box equivalent. Now you have to close Mediaportal and run the configuration.exe application.

I do this via multiple user login (XP remote desktop), which is working flawlessly.
You can then login to a different useraccount while MP is running, even configure MP client (yes it is working) while you are watching TV on your main screen.
I do not know if channel scan on a free card is working though...
just do a google search for "multiple user remote desktop" there is a hack for XP that you have to apply....

Ultimately it would be nice for a media center application to never have to return to the OS. Do everything inside media center application. All STBs can scan satellites or terrsestrial frequencies, functionality is already there inside mediaportal source, it just isn't inside a mediaportal plugin but inside configuration.exe.
I think to get the most out of the system, yoy would eventually have to resort to configuration to sort somethings out. But it would be great for an initial setup. Sort of like a Quick-Guide to set up the most used features, such as scanning channels and defining folders for movies.
But I really think it would be too much of a hazzle to use a GUI in MP to sort channels, delete unused and to make channel groups. I think it's a big work just doing it in configuration.

On Vista MCE you can scan for channels, change channel number and delete (well, hide) channels, so it's not that much of a stretch surely?
I know that MS have loads of resources compared with an open source project, but the ability to configure somewhat inside MP (even if just scan, setup folders for music/video etc and enable plugins) would be great if possible.

I've started working on plugin to do some basic TV Server config tasks such as scan for channels and hide channels from the EPG. Hopefully I should have something ready in the new few days or so.
Aside from scanning for channels and hiding channels, what other features do you think would be useful? I agree with jonaskp that most config tasks would still need to be done from the fully featured config app as it would be far too time consuming to configure everything with a remote control, but being able to do the basics from the gui would be nice.
