Few questions to see if Media Portal is right for me (1 Viewer)

Hi

I bought a very cheap USB receiver (August DVB-T205) - it seems too work fine so far. If I now buy a dual tuner then do I effectively have 3 tuners so could record 2 channels while watching a third ?

And also, if the dual supports HD (mine doesn't), then will MediaPortal work that out so I can look at HD channels on 2 tuners but not the third ?

Yes is the answer to the first question.

Yes is also the answer to the second question. If you scan on each card I think MediaPortal will know what channels are associated with each tuner. If an HD channel was mapped to the non-HD tuner you could remove the mapping in TV Server Configuration -> TV Channels -> TV Mapping.

You may wish to consider the priority that you configure the cards with in TV Server as this will determine the order it uses the cards. If the HD ones are first, as these can also tune to SD they may be in use if you then need HD on a third tuner. It may be an idea to have the SD only one first. If a programme is on an HD channel it will not be used and the next tuner will be used instead. If the programme is SD then it will be used leaving two HD tuners free.
