Hi all,

I'm having a little bit of trouble - if Iuse the MPA audio decoder, I don't get proper 5.1 sound - I believe this is tied into an issue with the realtek HD audio sound driver (when set for optical output, it only seems to drive 2 speakers) - here's the kicker - if I run Theatertek OR use the FFDShow Audio decoder, it will properly output via optical the 5.1 surround sound (and DTS if DTS encoding is present - at least w/ theatertek, I don't have any video files that have DTS, just some DVD's).

Ok, that is wonderful - I can get my 5.1 sound.

Now the problem becomes if I do that, the volume up/down within MediaPortal no longer functions - is there a way to get the volume up/down control to work correctly when usind the FFDShow Audio decoder? Any help would be MOST appreciated!

-Tony

Have you got FFDShow set as audio codec in all three sections within MP config, DVD, Movies and Television, make sure you have not enabled spdif (unless by design), as this then puts the volume controlled by the receiver and you need to map your remote volume to that source, as the sound is not now controlled within MP.

    Hi!

I only use the FFDShow Audio codec in the movies section currently - the DVD is handled by an external player (TheaterTek), and although I have the TV server/client installed, I don't currently use it (due to another problem with not knowing how to make it control my DISH network box).

Ok - now here's another wierd thing, and it may be a partially due to a misunderstanding on my part - I was under the impression that the optical feed is an spdif feed - the optical audio feed is all I have connected between my HTPC and my receiver/amp. When I use the MPA audio decoder, I don't get the 5.1 audio out, but I do have volume control via media portal. It's only when I use the ffdshow audio that I no longer have local audio control. Are there multiple forms of optical audio control not spdif (sorry for the noob question, but I really don't know)? I know that the audio signals are sent thru the optical connection as that is the ONLY audio connection between my pc and the receiver, and I know I have volume control via HTPC if I use the MPA decoder.

Once again, I appologize for what must seem like a silly question =)
