File names & folder structure (1 Viewer)

thanks to the help of people here i now have pretty much everything up and working. i'm using Moving Pictures for movie rips, My TV-Series for well, tv series rips and Videos for miscellaneous dvd rips such as concerts.

but i also have many downloaded music videos (mpeg & flv formats) and i wandered what the best way is to name them and which folder structure to use for Media Portal to recognise them? also, which is the best plug-in or default section to put them in? i'd like to keep them separate from everything else if possible.

thanks Deda, but i'm at a complete and utter loss with this. i downloaded the version hosted on Google and followed the instructions on the Read Me file

Copy plugins to your mediaportal directory
Copy desired skin file to your skin folder
Place FFMpeg.exe (download @ http://mp-musicvids.googlecode.com/files/ffmpeg.exe) somewhere, and point to it in the settings window.

i placed the 'plugins' folder and it's contents in C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\Media Portal\ and placed the 'skins' folder in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\Media Portal (this is the only place i could find a skin folder to replace). then i opened the BasicHome Editor and added MUSIC VIDS under the BasicHome Design tab, saved it and generated a new menu.

all OK so far (i think) as it shows on the menu and i am able to select it.

i made sure i have ffmpeg in my downloads folder so i can point to it as instructed, but i have no clue where to go to point to it or how to get it to scan a folder...

i opened MediaPortal Configuration and selected Plugins on the menu. alongside MovingPictures and MP-TV Series i can see a plugin called My Music Videos but if i try to select it so that i can configure it, i get a message telling me

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index

i get this even if i just move the mouse over that plugin.

before installing the .dll file i made a point of backing up the existing .dll which i only realised was there when windows asked for permission to overwrite it. i have since put the original .dll file back into the plugins/windows folder to see if it worked but i get the same message.

what am i doing wrong??

Hi there,

Not sure exactly what version your are running, but.....

There was an issue with the original plugin (and the original developer is no longer around). Trevor (another Dev) has "taken over" the development and released a temporary update (until things are sorted properly).

Please try that (if you already haven't). If that doesn't solve it, we will need logs and config of your installation.

ok, i downloaded that new version of the .dll and put it in the appropriate folder \plugins\windows, restarted MediaPortal Configuration but get exactly the same message.

i don't know how to print logs or exactly what details you need?
