Film Strip (1 Viewer)

Hi Everyone,

IS there a way to keep the filmstrip when opening MP? I prefer the filmstrip look when choosing the movies or browsing titles. Also, is it possible to change the selection from movable to a fixed position. Selecting My Videos is like playing whack a mole with moving targets. Not very polished and child like.

I'm glad you asked this, I think.

I wanted to do the reverse and start with your "moles".

I'm new to this but I think you want to tick "Start with basic home screen" in General Configuration.

Thanks XRay,

That suggestion stopped the whack a mole process. Now I would like the app to keep the film strip when opening the video page. Something like save settings after exiting...Any ideas???

Edit: I was able to change the view in (videos\video view).. So far so good

Looks like you guys are getting things figured out. From the mole-whacking decription (I love it), it sounds like you're using the mouse as your main input device, no? If you wanted to continue using the regular home screen (I prefer it to Basic but it's a matter of personal taste) you might try using a keyboard (or even remote). If you use the arrow keys on the KB or remote, it cycles through the selections, then you can just press 'enter' or 'ok' and you're good. If you've only got a wireless mouse, you might want to try the scrollwheel (again, if you have one).

    DCWP,

Thanks for the response. I sure do like the polished look of Black and White 1080P. I may get a wireless keyboard and mouse some time this week. Right now I am using the mouse/keyboard, as you suggested. I only use this software to catalog all my DVD's. I have about 600 to rip. If you have any other suggestions for DVD playback plug in let me know..

    Thanks,

    MAK :D

600 DVDs, huh? Wow. No suggestions in particular. Have you tried the MovingPictures plugin yet? I like the interface, but I'm only organizing around 30 DVDs. Enjoy your time with MP!

I tried moving pictures, but the cover art and description were not to my desires. Not knocking it, but the cover art was not very good as far as selection. And the title was in several foreign languages. I went back to the standard format and so far it works well for me. I can change the art in: my videos/ right click / IMDB / click on the up and down button to the preferred cover. I have a couple of terabyte drives which cost only $109.00 a piece. About 200 movies per drive. My OS resides on another drive as well as my Music database with Foobar on another. I just rip the main movie with subtitles and leave all the other bloat out of it.

I like the fact that I can use an external player with the software. I my case I use MPC-HC , Nvidia Audio, Nvidia video decoder, and MadVR renderer in external output. So far I have about 23 titles ripped in one day. I am surprised that a rip only takes about 9 to 10 minutes per disk. The Sata BR/DVD drive is a lot faster than my Pata drive.

    Thanks,

    MAK :)

Yep, one of the joys of MP is that there are several ways to do any one thing, so each user can configure how they like it.

It sounds like you've got a well-planned setup. I also strip out everything but the main movies when I transcode. I know that is blasphemy to some purists, but I never use that stuff, it takes space, and if I really want it, I'll just dig the disks out of the attic. But I'm curious about your hardware setup and the software you use for DVD ripping. I'm using FairUseWizard and it takes a couple of hours to do a two pass rip of regular DVD into XVid, longer if I want H264. I don't have BD right now, but I can imagine that it would take even longer. Getting down to 9-10 min per disk would be great (I'd probably start using H264 if it were less than 2 hrs per disk), but I suspect that it would be pricey. Do you think it's the SATA drive that makes the difference?

My hardware is nothing special: Asus P5W DH mother board, 2 Gigs of dual channel ram, LG BD drive, 3ware raid card, Intel 6320 processor, RME sound card to TriVista 21 DAC, 2 WD caviar Black 1 terabyte drives, and ATI 3850 graphics card. XP Pro SP3 and a couple of other drives as well.

The LG BD drive is SATA and the other drive is a standard DVd drive. All the movies I am ripping are standard DVD's and I only have a couple of Blue Ray movies. My rips are at DVD9 standards, so there is no 2 pass VBR going on. In other word, no compression. I use DVD Fab HD for the rips on SD content, or AnyDVD for BD disks.

Speed for the PATA drive is about 5MB/s and up to 10MB/s for SATA. My average rip time is 9 to 10 minutes at most. I make sure DMA is enabled as will as 32 bit transfer in BIOS. With drive space so cheap I see no need to do 2 pass VBR and rip to another format. VOB files work just fine for me with DVD Fab HD and Media Portal/MPC-HC. It creates the file folder for each rip automatically. Why rip to Xvid container for DVD's??????

I bought the LG drive for about $100.00 dollars and flashed the firmware for dual format use (BD and HDDVD). DVD Decrypter and DVD Fab will also do 2 pass VBR and compress to fit single layer dvd'd as well. It probably takes no longer than a straight rip. Smart ripper is another product that has been around for several years.

As I said, nothing on the cutting edge, just solid performance from what I have chosen for my rig. Have a wonderful day..
