Hi there,
i found an older thread for this question, so i just want to ask if it will be implemented some time:

I want to filter my movies by audio language in the main menu. Right now MP reads the "audio codec" and "audio channels" tag while importing, right? So there aren´t any words i can filter on (e.g. german, japanese, english).

I then tried to simply rename the file name like "filmtitle.2011.ger.eng.mkv" and then do a "Original File Name -> contains -> .ger" Filter but that doesn´t work either (Or have I missed something?)

Any other solutions I could use to achieve this?

Thanks,
Phil

Ah, I found out it works when I use the "Full Path" Category.

Hi

I'm looking also for this possibility and would be happy if this would be somehow implemented.

AW: Re: Filter on Audio Language

I have already folders like German, English and Hungarian and I do also the filtering by path. But many of the movies in the Hungarian and German folder have dual languages and it would be great to get them filtered like for example:

English: Full path begins with (path to the English folder) or audio contains English

This way also the movies which are located in the Hungarian and German folders and have an English audio would appear.

No I meant to use "Full Path" filter option to check for values of the filename. The term is a little confusing, "Full Path" refers to Path+Filename.

I use "Full Path" myself to scan for tags in filenames myself, such as a category that lists all my "Director's Cut" movies, which I distill via a "Full Path" + 'contains' + "Director's Cut", that works on filenames such as "BlaBla (Director's Cut).avi"

Of course then I added the function into the IMDb+ scraper for special edition tag support, but I still use the original filter as well.

Yes that is an option. But I have 900+ movies and would need to check each one if there is dual audio and then rename it:-(
However tanks for your information / clarification.

Yeah, my answer was more towards original poster, because they were using "Original file name".

What you want is for MediaInfo to get expanded to support language tags inside header. Far as I know they already do, so perhaps MovingPictures needs to be expanded to support it more.

The problem then however is that 99% of audio tracks inside a mediafile is not tagged with a language code so it would make the entire system useless to begin with. However you can batch process your monster task with 3rd party tools. You can write an easy script that scans all your 900+ movies with the MediaInfo GUI app and stores info on each mediafile in a seperate text file. Then with another 3rd party tool you scan the contents of that text file for patterns to indicate if it has dual-audio and if you are lucky get correct tags on each of them regarding language, and then finally you can use another 3rd party tool to auto rename all your filenames to add the language tags you want to the filenames at the end, which you can then filter on.

The big problem with the above is that you will find out that the language tagging inside mediafile is wrong more often then right, so manually verifying each file (which you can then rename as well while you are at it) might still be the only solution, but YMMV.

Even if its not tagged correctly, at least you can use it to identify the non-English single track movies easy (to verify it is correct), and filter out the dual+ track movies. So it will reduce your manual task a lot either way.

MediaInfo GUI app can be used for step 1.
CygWin grep tool can be used to apply regular expression content scanning of the MediaInfo text results for step 2.
ReNamer can be used to bulk/mass-rename the files for step 3.

Oh yes, I had already problems because the audio track was not tagged correctly. For example on Kill Bill I had in the audio tag: Audio 1 and Audio 2 instead of English and Hungarian or on an other movie both audios had the same name. For mkv files I found once a tool to correct this. As I remeber it was MKVToolNix and for avi files maybe abcAVI Tag-Editor can be used. A tool as for MP3 like TagScanner would be great, so if you know one, please let me know.

Regarding writing a script, I think it's better for me to let it be, because this would go beyond my knowlege. So I will try to clean / update all the tags step by step (prefer to have clean tags instead of changing the file names) and hope that movingpictures will support this in future.
