Been getting the dreaded 2908 MSInstaller error,so my RC3 installation had to wait until I could reinstall my mediaPC. Well, took the plunge yesterday, not content with a straightforward install, I chose to use tinyxp, turns out it was a smart choice. Installation was fast, from boot to desktop took about 15 seconds! Next, audio, video and TV card drivers, .NET,WMP, MPC, Real Alt, QT Alt, Divx, AC3, ffdshow, firefly drivers and firefly profile for MP, Powerdvd, and of course MP RC3.Total time including xpinstall about 2.5 hours. Took a while to mess about with xmltv, I always have issues with that.

Verdict, effort was worthwhile, system running smooth with no accumulated crap, MP RC3 seems to run pretty faultlessly, absolutely no crashes in 24 hours, I love the TVGuide overlay and the Now Playing in MyMusic. Going to resist installing anything else on this machine and keep it ticking over. Gotta ghost this drive just in case.

EFROS can you provide me with a link to where you got your TinyXP iso? I have downloaded 2 version so far, and both have turned out to be crap. Is yours for XP home or XPPro?

From what i can find it is a hacked version of xp pro.
Can download as a torrent and on google uk shows up as uk version.
Whether it would suite everyone, again is a choice.
Also if your own xp install id will work (highly illegal if not)?
Would it not be easier to turn off all unneccesary services in xp anyway!

im not 100% sure

but i think that tiny xp is windows xp with all the rubbish taken out so it saves space on the hard drive and makes the computer bot quicker.

Yup a hacked version of xppro, but i have my own xp key so legal. And it is xp with all the extraneous crap removed, including IE.

I have made small operating systems myself with a program called nlite.
It`s a great program.
You can even remove the IE core. But if you remove to much other programs wont work.

Now using MP as shell with tinyxp, seems to be pretty good will let you know if there are any big issues.

BIG ISSUE

RUN commands from registry are not executed so Firefly remote don't work, anyone know how to use a batch file as SHELL such that RUN items can be executed and then MP, or is that a really stupid question?
