Will MP2 feature folder browsing (like in MP1) or it will be media library only?

Many times, putting files into one list is a bad idea, even with sorting features.

For example, usually you want to have your pictures organized by where you took picture and usually this is organized with folders, which works great. But MP2 piles all pictures into one huge list, which is pain to browse and finding picture you want is not really easy.

    AW: Folder browsing

When disconnected from home server -> "Local Media", this is a pure browsing of local media folders
When connected to home server -> "Browse Media", this is a browsing of all media folders in the system, provided by the media library

But maybe we'll rework the media navigation a bit later.

Ah... could I please put in a vote for universal folder browsing? I have a lot of movies and TV series on my file server and they are arranged in a way where I can find them really easily, and in what I consider to be the proper viewing order for some TV series; e.g. ST:TOS (it's fun to watch them by Stardates), Dresden Files ("Storm Front" should be first) or Space:1999 (no two countries agrees on what the viewing order should be as they aired them on almost random orders) instead of the ordering inflicted upon me by the media browsers. Also, most media browsers present your media as one long bloody list you have to parse through instead of offering you the option to sub-classify the alphabetically (no, I do not use a keyboard in my set-up, so "search" is painful to use).

While I only use it once in a while, the ability to use "raw" folders to browse files, play them in a particular order, or even locate a specific file/movie *over the network* comes in very handy. I make good use of it in MP1. Please do not remove this functionality.

    Thanks.

When connected to the server, both modes exists : database of folder browsing.

A share in MP2 is a local or remote folder you'll use. Once indexed in the database, you can use the "browse media" button, and it will display all shares, and then directories in each share, ie "My Video from my server", containing your series, each serie directory contains the seasons, and each season directory contains the episodes.

Please, try it if you can :)

    Smeulf.

[Edit] In the Movie view (using the database), if you have a lot of movies, then the screen will display A*, B*, C* ... instead of the all list. Then you don"t have to browse hundreds of lines to find the film starting by "R"... can also be usefull... [/Edit]

Smeulf: Thanks for the heads-up about the automagic re-listing of movies. The extremely long lists are indeed daunting (I have a large file-server and am ripping all my DVDs/BluRays to it).

As for trying out MP2, I only just got MP1.2.2 installed on my HTPC with "My Anime" and "My TV Series" (I think) working correctly (and loving both of them, even if they don't do this automagic re-organising you mentioned for MP2).

I'm still working on getting the live TV working and why "My Film" refuses to show me cover art (and "Moving Pictures" just screws up when identifying my moves)... so installing and trying MP2 is a little further down my to-do list. Sorry.
