Would it be possible to have a simple set-up screen that contains a *complete* list of all directories that MP2 is using, including the option to change them?

I have a decent file-server on the network and a Gigabit wired connection to it... and a small SSD drive in my HTPC. I would love to (easily) offload some of the directories to the fileserver; and while *some* of the directories can be easily changed from the set-up application (in various screens/tabs), it appears that this is only a small sub-set of the directories MP uses.

A single location for all the directories used by MP (plug-ins excepted, of course) would be very nice.

    Hi Neoculture,

Today, MP2 uses mainely 4 directories (including sub directories), assuming it will be installed with the setup :

    - Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MP2-Client => contains program and plugins for the client side
    - Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MP2-Server => contains program and plugins for the server side
    - ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MP2-Client => contains settings and logs for the client
    - ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MP2-Server => contains setting, logs and the database for the server

It's not possible to use a single location (I hope I understand you correctly), because of plugins conflicts between client and server.

Also, it's not possible because of Windows 7 security that basically doesn't allows to write in the program files directory.

Anyway, it's possible for you to move more directories : Take a look into "Defaults\Paths.xml" files in the client or server directories, you'll see that some paths can be changed. I don't think we will create any screen to change those advanced settings in the setup : it's too much advanced and would be hard for us to help people that plays with those settings without knowing what they're doing ;)

Btw, what folder do you want to move ?

    Cheers.

    Smeulf.

    Smeulf: HI,

I obviously didn't express myself clearly enough, sorry. :(

There are things in MP1.2 which appear to be hard-coded into the system. And I don't necessarily mean the big-4 you listed about, but some of the stuff under those directories. It'd be nice to be able to move individual database (for example), recording directories, individual thumbnail directories, etc... off the SSD. and onto the network (for me at least) and to have a single location in the setup utility which lists all of these directories/paths.

Of course if you ask questions about MP1 in the MP2 forum, it can confuse everyone ;)

May I ask you te repost your question in the proper forum, as I think my answers for MP2 can interess some people in the future ?

    Thanks.

Neo, MP2 doesn't use ANY hard coded paths (and if it yet does, tell me and I'll hit the dev who perpetrated it). Maybe there is one exception, the EVR presenter, which doesn't have access to the configured paths because it is a C++ DLL, so maybe here we find a hard coded log output path. For the rest, all paths for configuration, log output, database etc. can be changed in the Paths.xml file Smeulf already said. And your shares, off course, can be configured in the GUI of MP2.

I am aware this was the MP2 forum; I was making a request for MP2 about something that annoyed me in MP1. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my original post.

    Albert: thanks for the heads-up.
