Do u think that MP should have support for software based tv cards in new releases?

I'm a very new user of MP, after using a lot of other HTPC software, finally i found MP and i really think that it's a really good program. I began using 0.2.2 RC4 and all was fine... except the support for sw based cards, then i tried the old 0.1.3 version and... surprise! my WinFast TV2000 XP Expert and PixelView PlayTV Pro 2 worked like a charm... the cpu usage was between 10 and 15%, and except for the timeshifting, all worked fine... so i talked with some developers of MP and they said to me that the new engine for handling TV is better than the old, etc, etc...

My idea is to suggest to developers team, that they preserves the old TV engine for sw based cards and that they continue using the new engine for hardware based cards. I think that this is the best solution for all, and this way it ensures compatibility with the larger amount of tv cards... i think that MP is better if it supports for as many models of tv cards is possible, isn't it? as i've readed in other threads, other open source projects in linux have support for sw based cards, and Nero Home 7, a 'next-gen' app, also have support for this cards (and it works perfectly). So, i think that if many users of MP reads this thread and put his ideas here, the dev team of MP will consider this, and may be that they include suport (and old tv engine) in this new release... i think that even for hardware cards users, there is already many advantages in the old engine...

So, please, express yourself here, and let's do that developers changes their minds, MP rocks! let's do it better...

.:FiDo:.

(i'm sorry for my bad english... )

I have a software tv-card, and I would like MP to support it but it`s a crappy tv-card anyway, so it`s not so important to me. My next tv-card wil probably be haupauge hardware based.

However, if MP is loosing a lot of users and among some of them contributers becouse of it`s lack of support for software tv-cards, then they should start supporting it.

I thougt they took the support away but put it back?
Maby not, I have not paid much atenttion to this.

I think this poll wil have to few votes to get realistic statistics, but let`s see.

EDIT: ah,, it was supportet :),,or could get if I want to

I've already readed that post, i have sent all the info about my PixelView PlayTV Pro 2 and WinFast TV2000 XP Expert to DMAN, but i have not response already.. Currently the winfast is working in RC4 but there is not timeshifting and there is A LOT a dropped frames (and very high CPU usage, around 60-70%) and out of sync troubles with sound... Using 0.1.3 all works fine (10-14% CPU usage)

Then wait for him. People have lives and this is opensource developed and supported with no one getting any money for this. It maybe that he is on holiday or that many of the developers are tired and just need a break. He will answer, you will have to wait.

    Hi,

sorry Fidoboy. I have to close this thread. This has been discussed many times.

Yes you are right, MP may loose people with SW encoding cards. But as you asked above, it will not be easier to maintain two TV engines. It much better for the code, the support and stability to only have one TV engine.

The current engine supports HW, DVB and SW cards, if they fullfill the requirements.

    Flip.
