Or a little note in the instructions, something like, "Things you might like to do before enabling your first recording"

Can only think of comskip atm, but i'm sure other people would have there own thoughts to add :)

next question then is about multiple channels. Is there an easy way to implement the record on any channel option in standard MP?

Some series for example are on E4 (and therefore E4+1) as well as channel 4 (and therefore Channel 4+1). If I want to schedule a recording of this series to only record one of each episode I don't seem to be able to do this via the MP interface, only through throught the 4tr console ??

Only really to reitterate about standby. 4TR and windows prevent standby during recordings. I take it that 4TR prevents standby when it is just about to start recording? and 4TR sort out when the machine will wake again? Also in the client I am assuming the 4TR plugin in preventing standby when not on the home screen?

(just all had me wondering why the need for the powerscheduler plugin in the TV Server if it can all be done via the standard power management???)

I set this to record anytime on this channel and then enable the only new episodes, this is done from the MP\record gui, very rarely do i access the FTR management console.

But this only picks one channel? I can select to record on E4 and only new episodes but what I would like to be able to do is set it up to record on E4, E4+1, Channel4, Channel4+1 etc just incase there is a problem with the recording on one channel

Yes, this is perfectly possible to do, but right now only from the Management Console or from Web Access. Once set up you can of course also access/use that schedule from within MP.

You don't need PowerScheduler anymore, in fact: when using For The Record you must disable PowerScheduler both on client and server.

hmm, oki and what will I therefore use to standby/ hibernate the server ? The simple Windows-Energy-settings ?

on my system (vista buisness 32Bit) standby/hibernate now works flawlessly, much better then powerscheduler or pvrscheduler.
The only thing that i'm missing is a reboot function that allows me to automatically reboot the pc once a week and to check that it's not recording during that time. Maybe i'll take a look at the FTR Api and try to see if i can use some of my rusty java skills and try to get something to work in c#.
The simple but ugly way would be to i.e. put a reboot.bat in a folder. When FTR starts it deletes the file (using the postprocessing) and after a recording it puts the file back. Then you create a new task plan job on that file and if its in the folder FTR is not recording. Alternatively you could create a file like "iamrecording.4tr" and check if that file is existing. if not reboot.

why not create a windows task ala "shutdown -r" started once a week ?
    I think u don't record 24/7

no i don't record 24/7 but i actually don't want to have to take a look at my schedules and try to avoid a specific time. Sometimes i like to record the repeats that run in the night (and that might be the best time to a reboot) because they have less commercials.
And i guess that task would shut down the pc no matter what its doing (aka recording) and i might miss a recording
