First: Its all about XDIV compressed Video with AC3 (DD5.1) in avi-format.

I have 2 HTPCs at home. One is an HP Slimline - runs perfectly. Smooth video, no jitter, nothing. <Shift>+<1> tells me that the framerate is basically constant at 23.97. I think thats pefect, right? Well at least it looks great.

Now I set up a second PC. Its a DELL Latitude D610 with 2GB RAM. I use the same external drive to store the movies. However if I watch the movies they sometimes play too FAST?! <Shift>+<1> tells me that the fps jump to 30 or more. I could understand if it drops (if the CPU is too slow) but not that ist too fast.... CPU-load is never more then 30%-40%. It might run for 5 mins and then suddenly the jitter goes from 0 or 1 up to 80-200 or so. After a bit it drops back. Since it looks like its running too fast I don't think the CPU is too slow.
BTW: It's the same regardless of Display-Device (internal LCD or external HDTV).

I played around with different codecs, no success.... I installed the same codecs (with same settings) on both machines. Does not help. Has anybody an idea?

Thanks for the support and thanks for a great software....
Stephan

Found something interesting...

When I change the setting for MPA Audio from 'Decode to SPDIF' to 'Speaker' the issue goes away.
So somehow related to Audio? Maybe that helps?
