Frustrated by failure (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to learn more about using my PC as a TV and am getting frustrated by my failure to get past the errors generated apparently by MediaPortal, and the fact that the programme keeps shutting down - I used to run a lowly Duron 900 processor, but have just rebuilt my PC to a reasonably high spec (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400, 2 Gb ram, an Asrock Asrock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 motherboard, nVidia 8400GS video card and am running a Hauppauge HVR-1300 hybrid card). I am running Win XP Home SP2, with all the available updates, Direct X 9.0c, and Microsoft Media Player 11.

Unfortunately, despite this, everytime I start Mediaportal, I get the dreaded "Mediaportal has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I have attached the latest MediaPortalLogs file. Incidentally, for what it's worth, I can watch TV by using WinTV, but I would rather try MediaPortal if possible, as it does seem to be well respected.

I would appreciate it if anyone was able to at least confirm that this kind of spec should work, and also if anyone was able to give me any pointers as to what the problem might be. As I feel out of my depth here, even what may seem to you to be the most obvious suggestion may be just what I need.

Many thanks

Iain

Your setup is fine. You should fill detail info - like use the "My System" (see signature).

If you haven't tried: Try uninstalling MP and deleting folder - then re-install.
I see (from what I've read) no reason for MP to crash.

One thing i spotted, you are trying to access BBCi, these are MHEG format channels (not supported atm), usually i just delete this and 301,302 etc, also the scrambled channels as well.

    cannot see anything unusual otherwise.

Thanks for the quick replies; I thought that I'd start off by uninstalling MediaPortal completely and then downloading again and starting from scratch. I'm assuming that the Hauppauge card is suitable for use, but confess to struggling completely with the issue of codecs - I guess I need to read some more about them and find out exactly what I should be using.

Unfortunately it doesn't always seem to be the same module causing the crash. Also the digital signal isn't brilliant at the moment, but the aerial man is coming next week.

The worst thing for locking up MP is a bad signal, better than it used to be, but still does get MP thinking, and may seem like MP has crashed, but it usually has not.

Working on the priciple that you guys know more than I do about this, is the fact that I'm using Media Player 11 and not 10 an issue at all? Also when I have tried using the system with WinTV 6 I can't get VMR9 mode without display corruption and have to resort to overlay mode (sounds impressive but I don't really understand it...) - would this be an issue with MediaPortal at all?

    Apologies for all the questions.
