I have a very powerful computer and only thing it doesn't have but it needs, is an up-to-date graphic card, since the one it has is very old (Intel GMA 950). I'm not sure what kind of motherboard I do have but I will find out if needed. I want to know the complete process of what I must do. I want to buy the newest nvidia graphic card which has to be compatible with my motherboard. If you need any more info, tell me. Any help is appreciated.

Assuming the motherboard has a x16 PCIe slot, a 9500GT is OK for running MediaPortal (I use this in my system).

Well it depends if you need gaming power too. I don't as mine is dedicated htpc and i just upgraded from GeForce 7300 -> 8400GS(G98 newer gpu) and i'm impressed for only 40€ card. All hd material i have tried runs 50 frames/sec. And i have choises for codecs Coreavc with cuda is ok. Cyberlink 9 is marvelleous with dxva. Only thing to remember with nvidia is to disable nvidia helping service with services.msc.
    regards,
