I have installed RC3 on a clean install of vista ultimate. Things are working ok on the main, but when I press the green button to get back to the main screen in mediaportal, vista mce loads as well as mediaportal going to the main menu.

With previous installs I have setup, vista mce hasnt started when I have pressed the green button on my mce remote.

What can I do to stop vista mce from starting?

Disables it altogether, is that what you need.

MPTrayMod changes the green button to open MP

Kill all mce related tasks with taskmanager, then rename c:\windows\ehome in c:\windows\ehome_
No more MCE.

You can revert by renaming again c:\windows\ehome

Could never rename the ehome directory, but i solved my issues by doing this (disabling them as services):

Click START
Select ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS
Select SERVICES
From the NAME column, double click MEDIA CENTER RECEIVER SERVICE
From the STARTUP TYPE drop down list, select DISABLED
Click APPLY
Click OK
Close the SERVICES window
Continue below if you would like to disable the MEDIA CENTER SCHEDULER [recommended], otherwise restart your computer
DISABLING MEDIA CENTER SCHEDULER

From the NAME column, double click MEDIA CENTER SCHEDULER
Right Click on it and select PROPERTIES
From the STARTUP TYPE drop down list, select DISABLED
Click APPLY
Click OK
Restart your computer

Great,
but i usually rename ehome by stopping mediacenter services first.
