I searched the forum but apparently no-one has had this issue before:

I can't create site groups on a new installation of OV 1.0.0.0. I only use 2-3 sites, and having to dig them in the 'English" group is quite annoying.
I get the same on MP 1.2.1 and 1.2.2. I tried to downgrade to version 0.33.0.1, but it doesn't update the site list (because it is old...)
What seems to happen (on version 1.0.0.0) is this: the configuration utility creates the OnlineVideoGroups.xml file, but it doesn't write to it: it has size 0. Permissions are ok, and the file is writable. I have another PC with MP and OV, where I was able to configure groups (when I still had version 0.33.0.1), so I also tried to copy the file from that PC, but nothing changes: it doesn't apply the groups from the new file.

This are the contents of OnlineVideos.log:

[01-19 01:19:03,445] [1 ] [INFO ] Thumbnails will be stored in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Thumbs\OnlineVideos\ with a maximum age of 100 days.

[01-19 01:19:16,563] [1 ] [WARN ] Error saving OnlineVideoGroups.xml:DataContractSerializer config section under System.Runtime.Serialization section group could not be loaded. Verify that machine.config is correctly set up.

Not sure what to make of the last line: there is no "DataContractSerializer" string in machine.config for either .NET 1.1 or 2.0. I recently had to reinstall both 1.1 and 2.0, but that should've fixed configuration problems, if anything.

I just tried this on my PC and did not run into any error. Are you sure you have .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed?

    Hi offbyone,

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't do it immediately and forgot...

I should've updated the thread before: it is all fixed now. My .net was still somehow messed up, not sure how or why, but I had to do a full uninstall and reinstall. The way I did it:

    1. download the .net cleanup tool from here:

.NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

    2. uninstall ALL the .net versions.

    3. reinstall all versions. If I remember it's enough to reinstall 3.5 Sp1:

Download: .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 (full package) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

    4. go to windowsupdate to install any additional update

NOTE: I tried first to uninstall one version at a time, not knowing which one was broken, but that didn't work: I had to wipe everything off and reinstall from scratch.
