I am new to the forum and last weekend did a single seat install to get familiar with MediaPortal. I am very pleased with the software so far - great job to those who have worked on this project.

My question is regarding what hardware I will need. I am planning on running a server in my office and eventually maybe up to 3 clients located elsewhere in the house (over a hardwired network). Each client will connect to a 720P HDTV. I read the hardware requirements in the manual but it wasn't clear to me if this was for both the server and the clients? The manual says I need a Dual-core CPU with 2,0 GHz or above for high def content (which I plan to have).

Is this the requirement for the both server and the client hardware?

Hi RobWilliams,
You need fast PC only on the client side. Dual Core CPU and HDTV graphic card eg. NVidia 8600 or better should be installed on the client.
As "server" you can use single core cpu 3GHz or better and 1GB RAM, If you want to see on every TV, different channels (on different transponder) you need 3 DVB-S(2) TV Cards eg. Technotrend.

I hope it's help.

Howdy all,

I had the same question and was glad and thankful to see a clear answer here.

I have another, related question. Would it be more advantageous to put a DVD R/W in a client, or the server?

Depends on the purpose of the drive. If for playing back disks then client. If for backing up purposes, then the server.
