The SBE is still used, what you saw was a product of this. If you start recording a show part way through you will get a 9kb DVR-MS file which then links itself to some hidden system SBE (Stream buffer Engine) files which contain the timeshifted material. You can avoid this by using the tvguide to schedule the recording after if its already began.

Can I just add this question about the recorded files as well.

why do they playback perfectly in media portal but if I use something like windows media player can I not play them back all the time?

I am doing it on the same machine so the codecs are there.

this is going to hamper my efforts for watching pre-recorded stuff on another machine :(

    Hi Teebor

I'm sure if you compress the recorded file, you end up with a equivalent full length mpeg2, can someone try and test as not got one of these at the moment, and post back just to confirm it works.

I have the same problem, with dvr-ms files of only 8-9kB and lots of .SBE files at around 100MB each. I can confirm that compressing gives a single mpg file which plays fine in media player, but I still don't understand why the original dvr-ms file is so messed up?
