I'm building a HTPC.. the last component I need is a remote.. and I figure I'll get a tuner card too, so I don't have to switch the TV's video mode. I use only OTA digital TV through an antenna I have installed in my attic.. I do not have cable/satellite. I want to be able to use a channel guide if possible so I can see what is on every channel without having to go preview the channel first. I also plan on splitting the antenna signal right behind the HTPC into 2 very short coax cables both going into the tuner card (I already have a signal amplifier in place).

I'm leaning towards the Hauppauge WinTV-2250 kit with remote.

Will the included remote do everything I need it to do? Change channels, browse channel guide, start recordings, navigate the MediaPortal menus, etc?

:D

Since the bundled remote is a MCE remote, yes, it will do what you want it to do, as long as it interfaces with with your pc.

One thing I want to point out is I am not sure if all will work successfully since the IR is attached to the tuner card...I have a separate eHome usb receiver that I got with my remote. My suggestion is to buy the OEM 2250 card and get the
MediaGate GP-IR01BK remote ($25-$30). I have abused this remote (sat, stepped, tossed etc) and it keeps working...for now lol.

I also use Event Ghost along with the plugin Short Cutter to assign (reassign) buttons to do different things. You can do this in Media Portal without Event Ghost, but I also assign other functions outside MediaPortal that affect media portal (such as script to enable/disable page up/down or enable/disable single up/down). I also use it restart MediaPortal when it locks up (cmd to kill it, then restart it).

Also look at the Silicon Dust HD Homerun networked ATSC tuners, incase you need more tuners but dont have the room.

    Good Luck
