Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Remote in Vista (1 Viewer)

After a year away from Mediaportal I am thinking about making a return.

Everything fine so far, except one thing...

I currently use a hauppauge remote with Vista media center. Doesn't work properly - for example "tv" button takes you to "recorded tv" - but it's good enough. I'm sure there's a way around it, but I'm no good at that kind of thing.

Anyway, now I have installed MP1 RC3 the remote's arrow and OK buttons work, but anything else takes you to vista mediacenter. I tried disabling MC in "services", but it still starts when you press the home key.

In the remote section of MP setup it says in the status box that there are "No problems found". I've selected the "use hauppauge remote" box.

Can anyone help? I would really like to get away from windows MC again...

I have the same issue - Nova-T 500 card on vista ultimate 32bit - Media Portal doesn't seem to correctly handle the hauppauge remote and there doesn't seem to be a girder plugin for hauppauge remotes to go that route rather than directly interfacing with MP. I'll reread that post you referenced paranoid and have a look specifically at the regedit - seems a strange one but worth a try.

have you deleted the other hauppauge remotes in mediaportal? i have deleted the other 2, so in my configuration there is only the 45-button one. fixed many of my problems.

that the home button opens vista mce, could be a problem of the irremote.ini (called in winXP, don't know if it's the same in vista).

MCE should be disabled if using TVServer for TV to avoid conflicts accessing the tuners, if not then do not bother disabling, try irserversuite and map a button you wish to mediaportal.exe.

OK. It works. Feel a bit stupid.


I assumed IR32 was installed because the remote worked in mediacenter. However vista must have installed another driver that doesn't work in mediaportal. Anyway, once I had dug out my old driver cd, installed IR32, and stopped MC services, it works fine. So it goodbye mediacenter and hello mediaportal!

If only it was that simple though! When I first installed MP, everything worked perfectly (except remote of course). It was all very exciting. However, now when I start the TV I get a black screen with only sound. Tried system restore to when it worked, but still no picture. Guess its goodbye mediaportal and hello mediacenter! Such a shame.

I'll try to trawl the forums to find a solution, but I don't hold out much hope. Wish me luck...x

Open MP config, topright there is expert mode button, select that, now you should be able to see in MP config directshow filter control, open this and change renderer to EVR, save and close, you should now have video
