Hi Procul I'm guessing here, but I think the answer to this problem is the same as the answer I gave to illutian: you need Hauppauge's SoftMCE/SoftPVR application. Get it from -->here<--. The LAV codecs are video and audio *decoders*; what you need is *encoders* to convert the analog signal supplied by the tuner into a digital signal that software in your computer can manipulate. So to do that, install the package above, then go to the scanning section for the tuner and click "add s-video channels". You'll see a bunch of channels added to your TV channel list. At least one of them should supply the VCR signal to you. This is documented in the wiki: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/141_Configuration/TV-Server_Configuration/02_TV_Servers/7_Scan_Analog Surely the message "... contact forums" is pretty clear, no? Just so you are aware, tuners that require software encoders are not officially supported precisely because they are such a pain to set up and often prove unreliable (video and audio just stop in the middle of viewing/recording) or unsatisfying (bad picture quality, video audio sync issues). No amount of guides or help supplied on the forums has been able to get around the setup complexity, and the technical issues are not going away. I'm not trying to make excuses - just saying Well MP is not for everyone. You're absolutely free and entitled to choose other software. :) MP: main application for viewing TV, video, listening to music etc. Compared to WMC, think of it as WMC without the TV support. MP Config: configuration for MP. You can configure some things from the "settings" menu inside MP, but for more advanced stuff you will need to use MP config. MP Ext. Inst: for installing extensions to MP (plugins). Like web browser plugins, plugins for viewing online videos, different skins... all sorts of stuff. TV Server config: MP is a two part application. There is MP the client for viewing stuff, and TV Server which is responsible for TV support (timeshifting, recording, scheduling, TV channel management). TV Server is a service that runs in the background with a plugin so that you can watch TV in MP. You configure TV Server with TV Server configuration. Maybe you would benefit by reading the quick start guide in the wiki? http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/13_Quick_Setup mm
