Hi. I just got the HDHomeRun setup and working outside of MediaPortal. Now I'm trying to get it working inside MediaPortal to view and record QAM channels. I get MediaPortal to see the tuner, but when I go to the AutoTune tab and perform an autoscan, it only finds a bunch of 8VSB channels and no QAM (I know there are about 12 of them). Is there a setting I'm missing with the AutoTune so that it will also scan for the QAM channels. I've tried everything I can think of. Any help is appreciated!
thanks,
SHANE

Did you read the instruction on Silicondust?

You need a QAM remap file in the root folder to tune QAM channels.

I did read the instructions. They aren't very clear. Which "root" do I put the remap file in? Also, it only talks about doing that if you are running MCE. What about WinXP?

Use the QAM Mapper program available from Silicondust. It automatically places the remap file in the C:\ drive.

I would suggest you use GBPVR instead of MediaPortal with HDHOMERUN. Support is better.

With MediaPortal, things are very buggy. Autotune is very buggy, you won't be able to get all HD channels in one scan... Then you need to manually edit out the channels that you already got in MediaPortal from the remap file and Autotune again to get the others that was missings...

It took 3 Autotunes to get all the HD channels in my area (7 HD channels via QAM).

Lastly, don't even try to use the TV Server, it'll drive you nuts.

It seems from the lack of response from developers that they just don't care here...

Thanks for the info. I had zero luck with the HDHomeRun in MediaPortal. I finally downloaded a trial version of SageTV and had the HDHomeRun viewing and recording in less than 10 minutes. I hate to pay for the SageTV software, but if that's what it takes to get the HD content working, then I guess I have to.

thanks,

Yea, I tried the SageTV trial. IMO it is not much better than GBPVR or Mediaportal once you get it working. It is not worth the money if you don't need the slingbox like capability because GBPVR can do everything SageTV can. But for sure there are people who swears by SageTV.
