Hello all :D,

First off, Id like to say "hello" and give you a quick run down, I have always buillt my own computer, but Im new to building media centers and media portal

I have built my dads friend a media center, [my first].

Setup -
I've used an Antec Fusion v2 case, 250gb hdd, 1gb ram, with a Hauppauge hvr-4000 card.

The media center is 'Windows XP', I went to Microsoft's live update site and downloaded all the updates etc, one of which was for the TV card. I made sure everything was/is fully updated. I then restarted the system [x3 times] for everything to be updated, I then downloaded the latest version "I think" of 'Media Portal'.

The website I bought the TV card off 'ebuyer' said that I could plug a UK digital/Cable and Sat feed straight into the card, and basically it work straight away :) but ive had no such luck :(

I've installed media portal and followed all the instructions/guides I could find.

But still nothing

HELP please

Kind Regards,
Jon :D

For Microsoft XP MCE you'll need the special MCE drivers. For Mediaportal you've to use the Standard BDA Drivers.
So you've to uninstall the MCE ones and install the standard BDA Driver.
Try to make your card work first with the software from Hauppauge. Next step will be to setup MP.

This way you're sure the hardware is installed correctly and the drivers/MPEG decoders are installed the right way.

Thank you for replying :)

The system is blank, the only files that are installed are windows xp's own software + drivers, no media setup except yours. I havnt installed the 'Windows Media Center', unless you tell me to.

How can I make sure the cards working properly, their was no software included.

Should I plug it into a standard tv feed first?

Regards,
Jon

    What this one from ebuyer.

Should have had a driver\software installation disk inside packaging, if not download from here, follow there on screen instructions.

As said get it working with Hauppauges software first, then try to get it working with MP

You usually use analog for cable input, but you connect your feed from the cable settop box to the tv card analogue input, and need a IR blaster, like the ones that come with the mce remote to control channel changes.

This takes a bit of patience and configuring.

This card will only allow you to do one thing at a time, ie watch\record 1 dvb-T channel, "WinTV-HVR-4000 is a four-in-one TV tuner" quote taken from hauppauge website, so this is not 4 seperate tuners, but one tuner that can receive 4 transmission formats.
