Hello,

Just got my HTPC set up, and the only thing left to do is set up the remote control.

I have a remote control that works with PowerCinema (which came bundled with the remote), it's a cheapie which I acquired for a little while ago.

I plugged it in hoping it'd work in MediaPortal, but the only keys that work are up, down, left, right, and power.

Is it possible for me to configure it to work with MP? A third party application that re-maps the remote keys to what MP needs perhaps? Or is it simpler than that? Or do I have to pay for another remote? :(

TIA!

You could use Girder costs, EventGhost or HIP, both free, to remap your remote's buttons.

Thanks. This looks complicated - is there a guide on setting this up? Also, where can I find a list of commands that mediaportal uses (i.e. what keys do what) so I can map everything properly?
Yes. You are right there. I have not indulged too much into learning about it: I use a standard MCE remote that works out-of-the-box with Mediaportal. If they are still available where you live, it may be your easiest option.

    Otherwise start with here

    or here

Thanks - but those guides show how to use REAL remotes with proper IR receivers. Mine is simply something that emulates keyboard presses, in fact here are the key presses as read by the system: These binds are hard wired into the remote (i.e. hitting the key actually counts as hitting the keyboard combo. How do I rebind my KEYBOARD to things that mediaportal can understand?

    Code:
    Radio - Ctrl+A
    TV - Ctrl+T
    DVD - Ctrl+N
    Music - Ctrl+M
    Photo - Ctrl+I
    Video - Ctrl+E
    DVD Menu - Ctrl+V
    Mute - F8
    Guide - F1
    Back - Backspace
    Play - Ctrl+Shift+P
    Pause - Ctrl+P
    Stop - Ctrl+S
<< - Ctrl+Shift+D (This one was probably meant to be B, not D, but the manufacturer mixed something up)
    >> - Ctrl+Shift+F
    |<< - Ctrl+B
    >>| - Ctrl+F
    Record - Ctrl+R
    Repeat - Ctrl+Shift+R
    CH+ - Page up
    CH- - Page down

After extensive googling I have found this (the OP said he simply re-mapped his keyboard and it worked.), and this on the DVB Owners forum:

The HID specification is very broad and the HID plugin cannot work with all HID devices. In your case, I suspect that the device is hard-configured to emulate a keyboard and it is not possible for Hip to override this. Download the Test HID program from here: http://www.byremote.com.au/downloads/download.asp?SID=20 and if you can get this to work, then it SHOULD work with Hip.

If not, then your only alternative is to use the default Keyboard interface which will allow you to catch the keystrokes generated by the remote and convert them to something more useful.

I downloaded the test program, and although the remote is actually picked up:

After I select one (I've tried all 3), I get "ERROR" in the main program window and key presses aren't picked up:

Alright, I managed to get it working by using EventGhost. Seems to be the easiest way to re-map the remote to things that mediaportal can 'understand'.
