That's the idea. Basically it has the same functionality as the MP1 version but dependency on MP2Extended was removed and that functionality replaced with new API. That new API part is not described anywhere yet but if anybody shows interest in developing something for it, I will document it. You have to set it up on the clients in the settings:

Authentication method:

None - No authentication needed
User & password - Login as user created in MP2
Passcode - Login by pascode. Kinda like an API key
Both - Any of the 2 mentioned above

Auto login timeout - How long the remote can stay connected without requiring login again
Enable bonjour - Easier discovery but requires bonjour to be installed
Passcode - The passcode to use passcode authentication
Port - The port the remote should connect to
Installation of bonjour service if bonjour discovery is supported/needed by the remote. The port you want the remote to connect to needs to be accessible. I don't think there is any in active development anymore. You might be lucky to get some of the existing ones to work partially but to get full functionality you would have to wait until a developer decides to develop an app. You can connect to any client with the remote but probably only one at a time depending on the app.
