Hello,

I am building a new HTPC and I can't decide which of the two MOBO's I should go with here:

1) ABIT NF-M2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127013

2) Asus M2NPV-VM

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131014

The first one gets better reviews on newegg but is also a little bit more expensive, not as that is a problem if the first one is better I am happy to spend the extra money...

Thanks,

THDBASED

Well... if you dont say anything about needs etc., its not very much to say.

The Asus has an optional SPDIF-bracket, although there have been several issues with SoundMAX/AD and SPDIF. If the the Abit uses Realtek its probably "safer" when it comes to SPDIF...

Try to get confirmation from others before taking this advice.

Well I will be using this as a standard HTPC, just for regular Analog TV, nothing digital nor HD...I will hook it up to a normal receiver for sound, also here nothing digital, and as a TV I am hoping for an LCD but I will probably hook it up, for now, to a normal 16:9 TV...

    Mem: 1 gig
    proc: 3200+ AMD A64
    video: use the one onboard
    sound: onboard

Anyone out there to give me some positive/negative advice on either of the two MOBO's?

The Asus board is quite popular - which makes support etc. easier. Since they both are based on nForce 430/6150, there is probably not much that separates them.

The Asus has "only" 5.1 support, whilst the Abit card has 7.1

Also, it seems that Abit has S/PFIN in/out. Although you have no plans to go "digital", its always nice to have the option.

So, this + all nice reviews of the Abit card would probably make me go for Abit.

The Abit board looks nice, but does it have TV out? I can't see any mention of this.
I don't see why the manufacturers keep making super HTPC boards and then forgetting to inlude simple video out.

We use the Asus board for one of our servers at work (small and efficient). It comes with a riser card for TV, S-Video and component out. I like the Asus board a lot.

Uhu, :) I am a core duo kind of guy but for a HTPC it is a bit overkill I think...

I am going to check if the Asus one has the riser for TV-out, if it has this feature, different in every country, I am going to buy the Asus one I guess.
