Help mounting .ISO movie files using Virtual CloneDrive within MP. (1 Viewer)

Most of my movies are in .ISO file format. I have read how to set-up and use "Daemon Tools" from within MP to mount ISO's but I would rather use "Virtual CloneDrive" as my virtual mounting tool.

I set-up "Virtual CloneDrive" as the mounting tool in MP config but when tested it failed. When I try to play an ISO (movie) I get 2 error messages from VCD. 1) "VCDMOUNT "Can't mount 1!", I click OK" 2) "VCDMOUNT "Can't mount 1, C:\filename.iso!", I click OK. OK, ok, so I'm trying to use an interface setup for DT to instead call VCD, it was worth a try.

Does anyone know of a work around or has any gotten VCD to work within MP? Can we get the MP modified to allow the use of VCD? Is there a reason that VCD can not be used in this way? Can someone build a stub program that accepts the currently passed parms from MP, and then calls VCD with the needed format?

Any reason you must use Virtual clone? Even if you need it for another reason outside MP, I would think you could have both installed, and just configure MP to use Daemon.

MP already handles Daemon Tools out of the box, and does it well. Daemon Tools is a well-established product that doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. I think you'd be hard pressed to get the devs to support something else.

What you tried (pointing to virtual clone as the "path to Daemon tools") is exactly what I would have tried. That's about the only thing I can think of. Maybe ask Virtual Clone developers to take the same command line arguments that Daemon Tools does.

I have used Virtual Clone Drive for a long time, it works well, it's free. It's a simple little tool that does a nice job.

I do not like the idea of installing additional software with duplicate functionality.

The program differences chart at Deamon Tools lead me to believe that I needed to purchase a license, but after digging further I believe I can use the lite version for personal use for free. I read some posts complaining that DT installs spam ware. McAfee's SiteAdvisor says "In our tests, some downloads on this site tried to change our Web browser home page." refering to DT's site.

I have installed and setup DT, it works for .ISO's but will not mount a .IMG from within MP. It will mount a .IMG if you do it manually. I enabled all file extensions in DT, even though .IMG was not listed it now mounts from within MP, seems slow to mount. The video starts but the screen is black (no picture), audio can be heard. ISO's start and play fine. If I manually mount an .IMG in VCD or DT (outside of MP) then MP will ask me if I want to play it, click yes and still the video is black. The same .IMG video plays fine in Cyberlink DVD and WMP, appears that MP does not like playing .IMG's? As the black screen plays if I click around on the screen and accidently find a button on the menu area then I get to see a picture (the black screen goes away). I think I will scrap this idea of playing ISO/IMG's, IF I use MP I guess I will just put all my vids in folder format.

Take a look at this post - your "audio but no video for DVD rips" problem may be a codec issue, or it may be a problem with a particular driver.

For Daemon Tools, yeah I looked at their site and it's getting harder to find what you need. In the old days it was just version 3.47, there was no lite vs standard, it was free at a number of shareware sites, etc.

I use ISOs extensively, not IMG files, so sorry I can't help you with the IMG problems. The rips in folders work fine, and lots of people do it that way, but I like the cleanliness of 1 file = 1 movie with ISOs. (Side question: is there a format difference? I don't know if an ISO is structured the same as an IMG file. Could I just rename and ISO to an IMG to get some experience with that?)

It might be codec related but I do get a picture once I click on a menu area (which is a little hard to find on a black screen) and from there I can play it fine so maybe the codec is OK? It's just the first video in the menu that displays black with audio. Could even be related to the file, but I think it did the same thing with another IMG file, not 100% sure at this point. I'm pretty much getting burned out.

I have a mix of ISO's and IMG's, both image formats of course, whether or not there is a difference may depend on what program is reading the file. The IMG file I have came from a binary newsgroup, if you want it I could tell you the what and where off-line.

I think I'm done trying things out in MP, I've found things that work and don't work for me. Time to do an system image restore, clean install of MP, and do a set-up that works for me. Looks like I will put my videos in folder format and use an external player like VLC so I have video controls that can be controlled with a mouse.

In case this helps others I was also getting error "Can't mount 1, C:\filename.iso! to solve, instead of pointing to D:\Program Files\Elaborate Bytes\VirtualCloneDrive\VCDMount.exe point to D:\Program Files\Elaborate Bytes\VirtualCloneDrive\Daemon.exe

Need more testing I.E. mounting un-mounting but seems ok so far.

Sorry just seen this, i have been using vcd for a couple of years now with Mp and at the start got the same error and what you did was correct to solve it

It works okay with me since then, hope this helps to confirm what you have said

My settings changed after upgrade from MP 1.1.2 to 1.1.3, this solved it.
