I imagine there is painfully simple answer to this but I can't figure it out!

When I select the genre view within MediaPortal the music that is displayed is referenced from my C: drive. In addition, all of the music that I have copied to my external hard drive is referenced causing MediaPortal to display most of my tracks more than once.

How can I tell MediaPortal to reference only my external hard drive and not my C: drive to be displayed in a database view? Do I have to go through the quick setup again or is there another way? Any help is appreciated!

The Database Views present ALL the songs, which have been found during a Database Scan on your configured Shares.

So when your shares contain both C: and External drives and you have the same songs on both drives, they would appear multiple times, since because of the different paths, they are treated as not being the same.

The only way getting rid of that is to have only C: in your shares and do a rescan of the shares.
    This will clean the database

To make sure I understand, my shares can contain

    (1) Both the C: and my external drive,
    -OR-
    (2) my C: alone
    -BUT NOT-
    (3) my external hard drive alone?

Is it possible to configure MediaPortal so that my shares include only my external hard drive and NOT my C: (I am organizing my music on my C: and then transfering it to my external hard drive).

This is the process I used in an attempt to do just that,

In MP configuration under Music>Music Folders I add a folder, title it External Hard Drive, and then browse to the music folder I have created on my external hard drive.
Then under Music Database I select the folder that I had created under Music Folders. Finally I click on Scan music shares at the bottom. However, MediaPortal still references the music in my C: drive.

So is it my process that is wrong or can my external drive not be the only drive on my share?

In this case, yu should have ONLY your external drive added to the shares.
Remove all references to C: from Music>Music Folders.

if C: is not mentioned, then it isn't scanned.

Well, that is what I thought I did but I am still having trouble. I have taken screenshots if that would help communicate my problem but I am unsure about how to attach them (URL for the image?). I am also aware that some forum users attach "logs" if that is even the right word but I am not tech savvy enough to figure out how to use "logs". However, I am fairly sure, at least this time, that I am doing everything right. Should I report a bug?
