I have a X10 remote "AR Remote Control MCE, Art.-Nr. 1040050, Made in China by X10".
I use the standard MP 0.23 with SVN 17305, no additional plugins.
Without any further configuration, some buttons on my X10 remote work (like up and down), other not (like zapping).
If in the MP setup under "Remote" I check "Use X10 remote", zapping works, but then the other commands (like up and down) are executed twice.
I have searched all the forums and the wiki, but did not find a hint that really explains what I should do.
(Only remarks that did not help, like here: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...lscreen-windowed-21595/index2.html#post235927)
Who can help?

Please go the config and check the advanced debugging checkbox in the remote section. Then start MP and perform the minimum number of actions necessary to reproduce the behavior. Please attach your logs, and I'll take a look at it.

    Hello diehard2,

    Attached two sets of logfiles.
For the first one I had X10 (other) enabled.
I started MediaPortal, it went to my previous application: TV. I pressed the "down" key on the remote. The menu went down two items with that one press. Then I closed MP.
For the second set I disabled X10.
I did the same as above, but now it went down just one item as expected.

Let me know if I should do further tests.

Thanks a lot for your help, I really need a working remote to make MP acceptable for the family.

    Hi Momo,
in Windows XP you can use "Wireless remote settings" in "control panel": select "Use wireless remote settings with the remotes set to this code" and select a wrong code. I suppose it's the same in Vista.
You won't be able to use the "AR Remote Control MCE" like a hid interface in others programs, it will only work with Mediaportal but you won't have repeated commands.

Hi momo, i somehow missed this the second time around. MP is behaving correctly, the x10 command is only received once. Please check there is no other software also sending command (girder, snapstream, etc.)

I'm also a X10 user and had this problem too, when I had Vista on the HTPC for testing. MP's behaviour is absolutely correct in this case. The problem is Vista's own "remote control engine" which also interprets the key presses on the remote.

You have to disable this stuff in the "Systemsteuerung" (Windows settings panel, don't know how it's called on an eglish Windows..). There in the device manager look for something with ...HID... and disable this device (don't disable the remote itself!).

Sorry, if this is all very vague but it's been a while since I did it ;)

    Thanks a lot, everybody!
As proposed by jpp I used the control panel to disable the remote for Windows (by setting a wrong channel).
    That did the trick.
With a working remote, my installation is now much more family-friendly. :)
    Thanks again!

    Great... :)

I almost threw my remote out the window...

I recently did a reinstall of win7 and MP1.1.0 RC1, but all of sudden couldn't use exit button, and sometimes not working at all.
But most of the time it was the "command sent twice" problem which gave me a headache

Strangely enough I never had to set anything in control panel before (previous installs of win7, vista and xp? ), so it never occur to me to explorer it...

BIG thanks to JPP (all though his last activity was back in 2008 ;) )

PS: if anyone with a x10 remote reading this, there is a x64 driver available on X10Receiver.NET - Startseite homepage, right under downloads :D
