I am very new to Media Portal. Infact this is the first time i have used it. I installed the main system and the essentials without a hitch. I tried to load it and i came up with the following message.

" Warning: Nothing will be rendered.
The reference rendering device was selected but your computer only has reduced functionality reference device installed. INstall the DirectX SDK to get the full reference device.
a software device that implecants the entire Direct3D feature set, but runs very slowly."

After reading this i went to install the latest DirectX SDK software. I then realised that it takes up 445 mb. I am now very reluctant to do this. Is there any way of working Media Portal porperly without this software?

Thanks.

SDK = Software Developer Kit, this is only needed if you intend to develop DirectX software. To compile and develop MP you need this.

To run MP you only need to install DirectX 9.0c, the redistrubtion package is about 34MB and can be found in the Essentials area of the download section.
