wasn't that as i already had it ticked....all it was in the end was that i was using the full screen icon in the top left of the menubar - i.e. the windows function that also contains minimize and exit....i needed to use alt+enter to goto true fullscreen mode  - also got my xp mce remote today and omg how goddarn sweet are they !!!
