Hierarchical Storage (Archiving to secondary disk)

This might be obsolete with the new TV server but I thought of a possible plugin or perhaps native functionality.
I have one smaller internal IDE HD and one large external USB HD.
Timeshifting and recording of Live TV works OK in the internal HD but struggles on the USB disk (possibly since I have a USB DVB-T adapter).
I thought it would be nice if Mediaportal could do the timeshifting and recording on the internal IDE HD and later do a sheduled archiving to my USB HD.
I can do this currently with dirmon or something similar but that can not update the TV Database so I would not be able to select to watch the recording from within My TV.
I have attached a small picture on how I would visualise somthing like that. Naturally can the converion to mpg be stripped out of the flow.
So what do you think? Nice idea or utter crap?
