Hi,

Ive been using MediaPortal for a few weeks with various problems so thought id do a clean install to see if it was any better.

Im getting 100% CPU (on 1 core if enable both I get 50% on each) usage when MediaPortal has focus, even when just on the home screen..if I then click on the task manager so Media Portal looses focus it drops to nearly 0%..

After reading other posts I thought it was a codec problem so have just installed the NVIDIA codec but the problem still remains.

Also after a few minutes the TV is cutting out to a black screen and I have to use "End Task" to close it.

It was working fine all last night while recording 2 channels..this morning its very flaky.

Specs are:

Clean install XP SP2 all updates applied icluding the memory leak ones suggested on here.
MediaPortal RC4

PentiumD 830 2x3Ghz
2GB DDR2
Haupaugge Nova-T USB2
Haupaugge HVR1100
2x200G Sata HD
ATI X800XL
Dual Monitor (One is TV)

All running latest drivers.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Been trying for ages to get this running reliably :(

Thanks in advance.

Just noticed..the high cpu only occurs when media portal is on the secondary display..if I have it on the primary it stays around 1-2%..

Also I have exclusive directx mode unticked so I can have full screen tv/video on the second display..is that likely to cause any problems?

    Hi,

MP uses DirectX9 acceleration. Since Windows XP does not support DX9 on the second display your CPU has to do all the rendering. Resulting in such a high CPU. It is highly recommended to run MP on the first screen. :)

Exclusiv DirectX prevents fullscreen playback from tearing. So if you do not have tearing, you can leave it unticked.

    HTH, Flip.

Ahh..thankyou FlipGer, that explains it :) Seems a bit limiting but I guess theres not much you can do.
