    Hi,

I've been trying out MP for a few weeks - generally very impressed.

The problem I'm getting is that when using the EVR renderer with DXVA I'm getting very high GPU load when playing interlaced content - up to 90% when playing 1440x1080i MPEG2 in a window covering most of the 1920x1080 screen. This results in stuttering and tearing. It's better in fullscreen mode, but I still get tearing at times so I suspect it's still generating a high GPU load.

If I stop the video (so it's just a static MP screen) the GPU load is still about 30% - so is MP constantly re-drawing the window contents even when nothing is changing ? - and does it still do this when playing video in fullscreen mode ?

I know that the video card (ATi HD3450) is performing hardware deinterlacing (the main reason for using DXVA in my case), but playing the same files in MPC-HC player with the same codecs and EVR rendering the maximum GPU load is about 50% - so no stuttering/tearing.

If I switch to VMR9, the GPU load drops noticably so that the stuttering/tearing goes away, but then it can't use DXVA2 so it's impossible to get hardware accelerated H264 decoding....

(I know that I could improve this by upgrading the video card, but it's a slimline PC case that only takes low-profile cards so it's difficult.....)

I suspect this issue is related to the one raised in this thread - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/codecs-external-players-55/mediaportal-uses-evr-3-input-pins-drops-50-all-frames-interlaced-stuff-43627/

    Any suggestions or comments ?

    Tony

    Hi Ieb,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't find the card for sale in the UK so far...

If I upgrade the video card I might go for one of the new low-profile HD4350 or HD4550 cards - these have 80 stream processors (twice as many as the 3450) and 7.1 HDMI audio support. The downside is that then I'll be on the cutting-edge of ATi driver releases - not sure if I want to go there at the moment :)
