Hi,

could we add a big, big hint at the website, that there's needed a GPU with DirectX9 support for MediaPortal?
In the german section we have nearly every day people asking for help and after some time it points out that they use a real old GPU which only supports DirectX7.
Most of them don't look at the requirements site in the wiki ...

Regards,
kiesow.

And what makes you think they would notice a DX9c compatible GPU notice on the front page. ;)

or in some cases not even know what it means or just ignore it anyway

Might be worthwhile showing a warning when downloading MP that a DX9c Graphics adapter (with .net etc.) has to be installed prior to the actual download beginning.

Do not think there is any foolproof way of stopping people from trying to get MP running on substandard pc's, as is proved daily.

    Regards

there is a nice red text-link in the middel of the page called "requirements" :)

you can fill the whole screen with "requires DX9 GPU", and you would still get these "error-reports" ;)

If there is a simple check that the code can perform when starting then maybe we could pop up a dialog and tell the user that MP can't load because minimum system requirements are not met:

    "
Warning: System does not meet minimum requirements.

MediaPortal requires a DirectX 9 compatible video card.
    "

    Something like that?

    Cheers,

Probably not the correct thread but

What makes mediaportal need a dx 9 card? is it just the gui? Will a simpler skin not make it work on older cards?

I got it to work just fine on a ati 9250 (which is NOT dx 9)

So making mediaportal just not install on a non dx9 gpu pc will take away a lot of users. Stick to a warning i think.

it works, but your CPU load is higher as if you would use a db9 card.

dx9 is required because we use VMR9 (VideoMixingRenderer9).
without that, you wouldnt have any OSD nor those lovely littly overlaywindows where i.e. LiveTV is playing when you are in MyTV home or the MP homescreen. :)

if you have too less video-memoy on your card (less than 64 MB) then you will encounter major problems anyway..
