First off - brand new to MP and really hoping I feel I can set it as my new server. Have been running MCE2005 on all TVs for last few years but really enjoy the GUI here better - especially the RC3!! I currently have it running successfully on Windows Home Server (I know it is not supported) with my MCE remotes and all!!

The question I have is - Is there a shortcut or keystroke that I am missing that would take me to the same start point everytime no matter where I am in MP - basically the Green button in MCE. This is a huge deal to me since I macro movies for my 4 year old daughter on my remote so she simply has to puch the DVD cover and the macro will start the movie. The thing about a macro - you need a starting point that will always be the same and so far I am unable to find that in MP.

Thanks a ton!!

Hope I have been detailed enough in what I am trying to accomplish.

TGB will take you to [home]<->[basic home]. You can make MP not use [basic home] by mapping this in config (I don't think anybody found a clever way to avoid [home]).

I guess IR Server Suite would do you good:
In this tab you can set up macros, which are lists of commands to execute. Macros include blasting IR commands, pausing, running external programs, popup messages, jumping to MediaPortal screens, sending serial port commands, simulating keystrokes, and sending window messages to other programs.

Macros are usefull when you need to blast multiple button presses to your equipment to get the desired results. Use NEW, EDIT, DELETE and TEST to create, modify, remove and test Macros. Double click a macro to edit.

Creating or modifying a macro will start the Macro Editor, click here for more information on the Macro Editor.
So you can be taken to a specific startpoint by ID-link (about every "page" hast their own uniqe ID) and set the rest from there.

(Btw: Got a 4-year old myself. She has gotten me out of bed before 07.00 this Saturday, so not my head is not very clear when writing this. And yes - she is now watching movies via MP:))

Thanks for the reply Spragleknas and sorry for the late response - been out of town.

Maybe it matters that I have to run my MCE remote through HIP to get it to recognize in WHS?? The Green button is actually acting like restore down and maximize as if in a "windows" window. I have been lurking around trying to find codes for it but when I stopped and thought about it - they really wouldn't match MP (imo)

This is literally the only thing stopping me from switching 100% to MP and would really like to solve it.

I just reread your reply and want to play a little more - will try to update soon.

Still no good here =( IR server suite says you can program macros to go to certain MP pages, but does not say how to. I really don't need a "Home" button but a button that always takes me to the same place so I can build the macro from there. If you hit back - back - back enough times you end up at the main screen but have no control over which menu selection the cursor is on. Hope I am making sense.
Basically I am trying to configure buttons that respond like "My Videos", "My Weather", etc...

I am sure the fact that I HAVE to go through HIP to get WHS to recognize my IR is hindering me, but I feel I should be able to get it -

Hopefully I am not misunderstanding, but I use the 'h' key to take me to the homescreen, which I think works from any location (I am not sure if it does it from within movie-playback though).

I am using an iMon remote and a plugin called 'Shortcutter' that maps remote blasts to a keystroke, and this seems to do the trick. Is this what you had in mind, and does anyone else think this might be the solution, or have I missed the point?

    Good luck,

If "H" does indeed send you to the home screen that should be just what I am looking for. I was unaware of that shortcut. I will test when I get home and reply.

    Thanks

(IIRC): The [H] os the same as [The Green Button]. Be default it is mapped to "Switch home", but you can alter it to [Home] (Not basic home)

The "h" is much closer to what I am trying to accomplish - Thank you for pointing that out. The main difference between the H and the Green button however is the green button always takes you back to the home page with a specific selection highlighted (My Videos, My Pictures, whicherver one it is - I can't remember) whereas the H takes you back to the home page and highlights the section you were currently in. There is probably a way to map a key that would take you to sub pages such as Videos, Pictures, Weather - and that is what I need to figure out - but the H key has given me hope and is a big step in getting closer.

I really hope TMP decide to make MP compatable with WHS - It would be the perfect solution for so many reasons!! The redundancy of drives so no need for devices such as a NAS and the ability to remote desktop into the unit without interrupting viewing or the main screen are the 2 biggest advantages for me!!

EDIT - Upon further testing - I find that if I push H twice from any menu (except the home screen) It will take me to the basic menu with Music selected everytime. This is what I am looking for - now if I can find a way to do it in the advanced menu - would be perfect. Hate building macros that rely on settings like that.
