For example I have a 5 year old daughter who knows CBeeebies is 71, and can change the channel by just typing in the numbers into the remote on our other TVs. At the moment the MCE remote with MediaPortal doesn't do this

I'm probably going to regret asking this question because at the moment I'm safe and she can't work out how to switch the channel when I'm distracted for 10 seconds ... but, it would be helpful.

I've had a look around for a guide but didn't spot one. I've tinkered with the mappings, but not had any joy yet.

Untick the option in MP config\TV "select channel by index", that should do the trick.

    Cannot disappoint the kids :)

Thanks for the tip ... now I just need to get the software working again

Cheers, for that I'll try it when I can get the TV running again.

Managed to corrupt the software, so I uninstalled, and reinstalled.

Now everytime I try to configure the TV server I get the message

"The TV service is not running. Start Now?"

Only it doesn't start. Found a fair few people with the same problem and nobody with a solution .. other than a system restore which I've tried and doesn't work - a restore error. Second time with the same problem in a week ... last time I fixed it with a complete rebuild

    That works

I had found a differnt post on the forum that siad that was a fix, but for some reason when I tried to save the file previously it didn't like it ... I think I used something other than notepad to view it. Worked that time though and I'm into the TV configuration tool. Brilliant.

I had tried a restore point, but this seems to be yet another Microsoft feature that has little or no purpose. The upside is ... I now know that my faith in System Resotre was misplaced and I cna go on the hunt for some proper software. Before this fix though I thought I was going to have my second Saturday in a row doing a complete rebuild to get my basic restore point back.

I have never found system restore to work correctly for me, so a backup image of your nice clean OS is recommended with all the updates pre-installed helps.

2 hrs to install Vista + SP1 seperately, against 10 minutes from image on another hdd :)
