Hi there... I did a bunch of searches but can't seem to find an authoritative answer, so I thought I would post a request.

How do you all do bitperfect sound in media portal? I have a chaintech AV710 card, and it supports ASIO, but the builtin player doesn't seem to do so.

Would reclock solve this problem for me?

I would like to use the same SPDIF audio out for both DTS and CD quality sound, but I could use the onboard audio for DTS if needed and switch in the reciever...

Thanks,
Frob

Well, if you're sounddriver e.g. doesn't switch between 44,1 & 48 Khz you can use the audio-renderer setting to have an advantage from 2 soundcards.
Set the primary one to output 44,1 Khz for accurate music playback and configure MP's renderer for Video and DVD to use the other card at 48 Khz --- just an example..

I think the AV710 driver does switch fine - the issue here is trying to bypass window's kmixer, that seems to upsample everything to 48 Khz.

ASIO and kernel streaming isn't supported by media portal is it? How do folks here get around kmixer with media portal?

    Thanks,

I have the same card and use Winamp as external player with the ASIO plugin. Works wonders and achieves bit perfect sound. Also DTS Wav is passed through to the receiver using SPDIF.

I have issues with loosing the first 2-3 seconds of every song (and tv-channel), but has it's origin in my home cinema receiver.

sderuiter, thanks for the reply. Is winamp hidden when it runs? That is, for my wife to use it, the UI's can't be changing as external programs are fired off. If the mediaportal gui stays in control and winamp runs "hidden" that would solve me problem...

    Thanks,

Ah, I've thought you were already trying foobar2000 as external player if you are after quality...

If you didn't even try than do so now and feel happy about kernel streaming

Sorry, I am a mediaportal newbie. This is my first install.

I can't seem to find a working link to the 0.83 version of foobar2000. From the forums it looks like the current version doesn't work.

Does anyone know a place to download it?

    thanks,
    frob

Ok, I found the 0.83 version and installed it. Then I added the ks plugin, but now foobar complains because it was built for the 0.9 release. So it doesn't work with the 0.83 version.

If I use the latest version, does it work with media portal? I read a note saying the http plugin that media portal uses to control foobar2000 doesn't work with 0.9.

Can someone outline a working config with media portal that works with foobar2000 with a working ks plugin?

    thanks,
    Frob

it is hidden (albeit pops up at first use). I have issues sometimes with skipping through a playlist. Winamp seems to hang itself and freezes MP with that.
