How do you record a TV series in MP 1.1? (1 Viewer)

Hi. I love Mediaportal, or 98% of it but in 1.0.0 recording a tv series was easy. You selected a program from the EPG, right clicked it and said 'record every week at this time' or something like that.

For every single version since then the tv series recording seems to have been removed. Every different release I would install, spend ages playing around with but fail to have a clue how to record a tv series. I thought 1.1 would finally allow this but it doesn't seem to.

I've spent a lot of time searching and reading through the manual, through google etc. but have learned nothing, except that maybe a plugin called for the record can help. Is that plugin the only way you can record a tv series in Mediaportal 1.1?

It's taken months if not years of frustration to finally get me to ask this simple question. I really hope the answer is something simple i've been overlooking all this time.

Thanks.

Hi,

How about right-clicking on a program, selecting "Record", then selecting "Advanced Record" and then "Record every week at this time". Is that what you were after?

tummybunny, you're on the right track.

The recording scheduler in MediaPortal is very limited. For example "Record every week at this time" only records the specified channel at that time. If the desired TV show is later moved to a different time or day, the scheduler will not adjust for this.

I switched to For The Record about a year ago and never looked back. You can configure it to your heart's content.
    > Want to record episodes of "Fringe" regardless of when they air? Done. Oh, and skip it if it's a repeat? Done.
    > Want to record the movie "Quantum of Solace" if it should happen to come up in the schedule? Done.
    > Want to record any program that features "Catherine Zeta-Jones"? Done.
    > Want to record your local news between 5-6 pm, but only on Fridays and Sundays? Done.
    > Want to record any "Adam Sandler" movie, but not if it conflicts with one of your favorite TV shows? Done...

I take it you already found the thread:

Just click through to the official site -- but there's one caveat at the moment: as of this writing For The Record has not yet been updated to support MediaPortal 1.1 final. It should be ready any day now, so just keep an eye on the official releases or public beta releases. And be sure to follow the installation instructions.

Another vote for Fortherecord. It is a great add-on for MP.

Just to add a clarification Fortherecord does support MP 1.1, but this requires the download of an additional .dll which available on the fortherecord forum.

Many thanks for the helpful replies.

All this time I've been telling MP to record a program and after that 'Advanced Record' options aren't available. I now know how to access them but as noted, the options are still quite limited.

For the record sounds very powerful but also possibly complicated to get working, and I've had enough things go wrong with my HTPCs over the years to develop a tendency to leave well enough alone. It sounds like it's worth giving a go though so i'll try it.
I take it it's smart enough to record every episode of House but not Desperate Housewives, for example?

Thanks again for your comments. Figuring this out has been puzzling me for a long time.

True, just trying to keep it simple and not scare people off, especially when an update is eminent. It used to be you had to do some detective work to get the dlls and figure out where they were supposed to go.

If you just can't wait... basic steps to install For The Record 1.5.0.1 with MediaPortal 1.1 final

    1. Install MePo 1.1 final

    2. Install FTR 1.5.0.1. Follow the instructions carefully (included in zip).
For The Record - View topic - For The Record 1.5.0.1

    - Tip 1: MePo will already have installed MySQL on your system. When the popup for SQL connection comes up, be sure to select MySQL. And see next tip...

    - Tip 2: If you have your Windows system font set larger than default, the FTR installer may appear to hang after the SQL Server connection. It is just a bug with big font. See my post here: For The Record - View topic - Problem with larger Font Size

    3. Directly after the FTR installer is finished, and prior to configuring FTR or MePo,

. a. Download the zip file from Sjakko in this thread:
For The Record - View topic - TvPlugin.dll needed for MePo 1.1.0 Final...

. b. As shown there in Sjakko's later post (Hooray!), extract the zip and copy the two dll files to the proper directory:
    XP:
    "%PROGRAMFILES%\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\plugins\Windows\"

    Vista/7 probably:
    "%ProgramData%\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\plugins\Windows\"

    4. Now proceed with the configuration instructions for FTR.

    - Tip 3: You may get to a point in the setup where it seems like FTR and MePo should be working together, but they do not. It occurs at the stage where you enable the FTR plugin in MePo Config. Rebooting Windows at that point solves the problem.
