I have a new install of MP 0.3 RC4

What is necessary to use compress?

Particular I want to convert my recordings to MPEG2, so I could use them on my external player (which does not support DVR).

WMV would also be fine, but I think this means a lot CPU load..

I just installes everything out of the box, installed the codecs MP comes with.. So pretty simple.

I searched the forum, but there was no simple answer. I guess lots of people are having same problem..

    1. Record a Show
    2. Goto My TV -> Recorded TV -> Compress
    3. In Settings, set the output format
    4. select Compress and choose the files
    5. Select OK

    Compression starts.

No it does not. I guess I have to install some filters/codecs?!?!??!
    Hmmm..

I have not installed any Caberlink oder Elecard files...
Are they neccessary? For what type of conversion?

(And where to get these files. I asume they are not free)

sure, you need them. without them you'll get an error.
Did you install a nightly svn build?
There's a file called start.bat which does the registering for you.
following will register the Cyberlink filter:
    Code:
    regsvr32 /u /s "C:\<Mediaportal-dir>\MpgMux.ax"

<Mediaportal-dir> is to be replaced by the path of the mp installation.

the old "myBurner" plugin did this quite well.

You can download it from the home page and one of the settings is to automatically convert all DVR-MS files to MPG.

It doesn't do much else, but that worked well.

So I DO NEED teh cyberlink filters, but I do not need anything else when going to convert to MPEG2/WMV?

On the MP screen it says "You need to have Elecard/cyblerlink filters if you are going to convert to XVID!"
(It is not telling anythink about converting to MPEG/WMV..

So where do I get these filters from? I do not want to vuy PowerDVD.. or do I have to?

The cyberlink filter is part of MP.
Look for the *.ax files in your MP dir.
You need to register all of them from commandline using the command i gave you yesterday.
Done that, you can convert to mpeg without any problems.
