I'm a ham operator too, though I've been inactive for quite a few years.
As long as you're using MP's TV Server, you should be able to make your idea work. Valdi provided codes for the Channel Master rotator, but it sounds like you have an IR receiver that is not supported by EventGhost. I'd recommend spending the $50 as the USB UIRT really works. Not all IR blasters/receivers seem to cover the full consumer IR spectrum, but the USB UIRT does.
