A couple of years ago my company needed to build a very quiet PC for a sound. We came across quietpcus.com, a company that makes parts to silence pcs.

We purchased several products from them and where very satisfied. I recently inherited our studio PC and am re-using the components for a living room client. The hard drive enclosure works well and is perfect for this application.

Just for the record, I have no affiliation whatsoever with this company nor was I paid or compensated in any way to recommend them.

Enjoy!

    do you already use the tvserver with a ultraslim client or do you have dozens of meters av-cable, ir receiver connections and a standalone dvd drive troughout your living room? just curious 'cause i'm thinking of banning my -just a little bit too noisy- htpc into the basement, too.
    regards

    Well, if your living is on top of the cellar, I'd doubt the "dozens of meters" I got my HTPC on the other side of a wall and the only modification from an ordinary PC system is (besides a TV card and remote) a USB DVD writer, placed next to the monitor (offtopic tip: try finding those old, cheap, megalomaniac 24" CRT screens on ebay equivalents). Completely silent and no extension cords whatsoever.

    By the way, you can always tie you PC to the roof of your cellar (No, I'm not joking): less chance of flooding, damp and other water related mess and less extension cords.

    You can also store it in any other room in your apartment or in the attic.
    i have allready done that a few times for friends and family members.

    its not only noiseless, you can use any superlow price ATX case. no need for nifty, silent designer cases.
    which i also have one staying around here ;)

    But in the livingroom and bedroom i do not want to hear ANY noise from the HTPC.

    and this is also only possible because the HTPC is not stored in the same room

    for the connection of the livingroom HTPC:
    1x 5m cable -> Toslink + S-Video + spdif coax + Audio L + Audio R
    1x 5m USB 2 Cable (for USB HUB: DVD drive + Keyboard/Mouse)
    1x 5m USB 1.1 cable for MS MCE remote (requires direct connection to MoBo to resume HTPC from S4 with remote)
    1x Kat 5 cable (for Powerbutton, HDD-LED, Power-LED mounted in one small PVC-Box placed next to the TV-Set)

    I agree with infinityloop. I see a lot of people spend money on silent parts and special cases and the like. My solution was to just put it in a cabinet with closing doors, solved all my problems and I just need to run the remote receiver and keyboard/mouse receiver out to somewhere visible.
