I'm interested in building a media server using a PCIe DVB-S2 Quad Tuner Card TBS6984 but am new to the HTPC idea. The card and MediaPortal would be installed on a home server in a cupboard several rooms away from the TV. I have ethernet near the TV and thought I probably needed a DLNA media extender in order to access the the HTPC and EPG, change channels and record using the remote. I basically want this to work the same way my current Freeview PVR works.
I can see this can be done using a PC with HDMI output to the TV but don't want the expense of yet another PC just to enable the TV.
All the media extenders I've looked at talk about playing files from the network but I need something which will connect to the media server for watching live TV, reading the EPG, changing channels and recording. Is this possible? What do I need?
Many thanks
