I'm watching most of my videos over SMB/CIFS mount from server at my ISP's data center, even though I have 50 mbits of bandwidth it is latency which is killing the performance of my media share. Some videos play fine for most of the time but ocassionaly I'm experiencing bad stuttering and hickups. With VLC I can tune file buffering and thus eliminate this problem completely, but I would rather use MP than VLC.
So .. is there an easy way to increase file buffering even a small bit on MP side? I have done everything there is to increase buffering on Windows itself, even tuned the TCP/IP stack at both ends to use very large TCP window.. but not much can be done on that level for this problem.
