i just bought a hauppauge remote control and it says on the media portal configuration screen that i have to install the latest drivers, so i downloaded the Hauppauge IR components V2.49.23332 driver but i cannot find the correct place to put the file?

I have been having the exact same problems with my hauppauge remote. The file IR32.exe seams to not work with latest MP version. Whenever I exit MP config or Mp itself I get a HCWhelper error and my hauppauge remote does not work, although it says in config that there are "no problems" with my remote. Also the process that needs to be running in the back (IR.exe) starts and then immediately ends again (watched this in task manager)

If you provide more info on the remote (there are so many) I believe it will be easier to answer. I.e. Hauppauge remotes that look like a MCE and is produced by SDK (?) uses eHome drivers.

It's this one (attached pic), I don't think it is an MCE remote, I think it is an original Hauppauge 45-button remote.
I configured the remote in MP config and it says there are no problems but the remote just doesn't work. But maybe it has to do with the fact that I can't start IR.exe, it starts and then immediately shuts down again. There are so many versions of the hauppauge software and also drivers from MP download section that I can't see clear anymore what to actually install and what not...

MediaPortal uses part of the Hauppauge remote driver. So this means you need to first install the Hauppauge driver for mediaportal to be able to recognise/use your remote.

There is a new driver that came out, with support for Vista, which you can find HERE.

As far as I could notice, the driver is usable for (almost) any hauppauge remote.

Thx I will try this. Does the WinTV program needs to be installed too? I don't want to install anything unnecessary on my HTPC.

well from scanning the forums i seen that the problem that im haveing is the same as some others have had as in the remotes arrow keys and the ok button working, now i have downloaded the latest svn and installed that but it still doesnt work but if im honest i felle like a 1 year old baby reading some of the stuff on this forum as i dont understand anything!

i mean the Hauppauge IR components V2.49.23332 file that downloads doesnt seam to be anything but a file as it would install or anything like that!

this is the remote in the shop i got it from

Nope. Only driver for hauppauge card and hauppauge remote.

I tryed that a million times, uninstalled, installed everything, then only IR thing, but still nothing. The problem must be that I can't start IR.exe and there is no IR icon in the tastbar.

Also the error I keep getting from HCWhelper whenever I close MP config or MP itself can't be helping to make it work!

That remote if it plugs into a usb port, may well be compatible with the ehome drivers, these come with XP pro sp2,
or if using xp home get driver from here
